If this film continues the false story that St. Mary Magdalene was a prostitute it is a disgrace. There are many sources that have shown that to be an error. As the Topekan commentator above said, the negative story about St. Mary Magdalene was firmly implanted by Pope Gregory in the end of the 6th century. Even the Roman Catholic Church has changed the gospel story that is read on her feast (July 22) to John 20:1-18. This is the beautiful scene in which St. Mary Magdalene searches for Jesus at the tomb, sees the angels and the gardener that Peter and the other apostle did not see, recognizes Jesus in the gardener as soon as he says her name, and is then commanded by Jesus to 'Go and tell the others that I have risen.' In John's gospel she is the first witness to the Resurrection and the first to preach the Resurrection. For all who want to preserve the patriarchical systems of old, this is a dangerous story. For those who wish to fully embrace Jesus' message of full equality, this is a most blessed story.
