in any event, i too am curious about your claim regarding Genesis. can you provide any support with facts (website, books, etc.) and not your opinion? i enjoy learning what things are being said on the non-believer's side. i partially agree with your concern about you the Calvary Church conducting the research, however the same argument can be made against any opposing side writing their beliefs.

I commend Pastor Craig Gross' efforts, because we are not here to judge others by their decision to choose. Satan is working harder than ever in our "earthly" world. We all have the choice to make a decision, however are we prepared to deal with the long term consequences?
Pastor Craig is putting up a safe place to listen and discuss this specific topic with those who may be confused. If people take him up on his offer...great. If not...that's their decision.

fyi believers...one of these days, i'll have to tell you about how i met these former union workers a few weeks back who told me jimmy hoffa is still alive. it's amazing, i know! they bought this thing called a "website" and are working on this other thing they call an "essay" to prove their claim that he isn't dead. once it's published, i'm going to consider him alive again. if no one else can convince me they saw him die or if a few authors didn't mention him in a book they wrote during the time he was alive...i think i'm onto something.

hmm...maybe your fellow atheists were trying to make up for lost time and get rid of Jesus in our new land? i think it's pretty apparent your forgery claims came around a long time after josephus wrote his statements pertaining to Christ, so i don't really understand why you would say they've been around since the 1800's (1740 years after).

alocksee...i'm reading about jeffrey jay lowder and gordon stein's "interpretations" of what tacitus meant back in 60 AC. it appears that three of you have a time traveling machine, because you must've been there to ascertain the theological context during his writings. you guys also seem to know why tacitus decided to not write a thorough historical account and therefore discredit everything else he did. i'm beginning to see how you take lowder and stein's tactics into your comments on this board. you pick and choose (said that before) what you're willing to comprehend and if it's not exactly what you want to hear, you reject it. i'm thinking you're in the legal field with no published works, as i asked before.

(Question 1) correct? If i’m wrong, can you tell me what would suffice for secular contemporary evidence? i did, however, find a passage from josephus who was listed on your website and “never mentions a Jesus the Christ”. and just because he didn’t convert to Christianity doesn’t discredit Jesus. 2) Matthew 27:50-54. You claim "not one report from anyone about it such an event." First off, I see one claim right there in the Bible...so you're already off to a bad start. Second, are you saying that because something isn't reported it therefore didn't happen?
I was also looking back on a comment you made - "Notice it says"this generation' meaning the current one when the alleged conversation took place."
(Question 1) Are you a trained Biblical scholar or master linguist? You're quick to provide your theological analysis, so I'm curious to know your credentials for being an authority on Biblical verses. If you do contain such credentials, I apologize and would love to read your published work outside of these and other blogs. (Question 2) Can you direct me to any such works?

I find it funny when you say things like that and then fail to answer a simple Yes/No question contained in brackets saying (Question 1). 1) You cite Matthew 16:27-28. Very thought provoking, however it's your interpretation. There are others out there who believe Jesus' words here were fulfilled at the Transfiguration when Peter, James and John saw his glory. Now I'm going to reference you to a website that elaborates on this topic. Before I do, in all fairness, it doesn't close out our debate. When you post atheist websites for our reference, you believe all over. Case closed...g'night! Doesn't work that way. It open-ups another viewpoint that you (and others) may not have been aware of -

i agree with you but also enjoy reading their "atheist" sites from time to time. it only strengthens my faith and helps me be more knowledgable when having conversations with others down the road. my belief is neverchanging, whereas their claims are everchanging. the funny thing about atheism is that i feel it is a form of religion unbeknownst to them.
oh yeah...i purposely spelled knowledgeable without the second 'e' above. i think it's funny how doubters on this site use little things like grammar or spelling errors to discredit someone's reasoning. i thought i'd take that away from them in hopes of making this a real debate ;)

I think it's interesting how you state the "earliest examples date from about 50 - 70 years after the date of the alleged crucifixion...". In other words, people could've been first hand witnesses at the Crucifixion/Resurrection and around to document their observations (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for example). Yes Philo and a few others may have been around, however I believe there are more who actually did witness Jesus Resurrected vs. those who doubt his mere existence listed in your website. (Question 1) Yes or No? (Question 2) Can you please also cite where in the Bible the disciples stated "he would return in THEIR LIFETIMES."
A little more on Philo. His ancestors and family had social ties and connections to the Priesthood in Judea; Hasmonean Dynasty; Herodian Dynasty and Julio-Claudian dynasty in Rome (thanks Wiki). Wait a minute, Herodian? As in King Herod? The one who tried to kill Jesus when he heard "the one having been born king of the Jews" could possibly dethrone him? Being that Philo had connections to the King, do you think he might have an interest to simply write him out of history?
I've read 7 pages of the 22 from the website you listed, and I'm working through the rest slowly but surely. I'm also sure that the essay is NOT correct simply because it hasn't been refuted. You're assuming it has been read by an opposing authority on the matter...which I'm far from but willing to point out areas that are obviously false (like Philo).

I'm curious to see your explanation(s) regarding these archeological discoveries and how they so accurately match those accounts written in the Exodus. It definitely gives some credibility to the Bible, wouldn't you say? I mean why would the Saudis secure these areas to prevent them for research purposes?
I'd be happy to share some more examples from Case for Faith by Lee Strobel regarding the Resurrection and more New Testament discoveries/facts. I'm not sure if you've read that book, however it's pretty insightful and really opened my eyes.

as you'll see the word predates our Constitution, which i find particularly interesting. have you ever thought how the Bible even got its name too? Biblios in greek is the same as "book" in english. think about the exegesis or explanation for that.
haha...months? daniel paul, i do get out every now and then ;) nonetheless, i enjoy sitting back to digest the exegesis and eisegesis of everyone's biblical interpretations and personal beliefs/feelings. i think these comment sections are a great source to hear what's going on in the world, however it's so hard to discuss heated topics like these. Some contributors really try to make a stand for the personal beliefs and don't want to hear the opposite argument (no matter how logical and also without name calling). i actually have an idea to change the way blogs or comment boards are handled for such topics, which i'm working on and trying to present to the masses. more to come.
here's what i've been doing lately in terms of this site - taking the things i read about, processing how it relates in my life/Bible learnings and then praying/sharing with those who are seeking out advice or wisdom for themselves or others close to them. sometimes the best way to address someone is indirectly vs. directly at them. i'm not saying i agree with everyone's choices, but you can't fight fire with fire and expect them to see the light (God).
oh yeah...i'll be around from time to time on here, and i appreciate everyone's input and willingness to share on this topic and others. i don't have friends from all walks of life and or viewpoints, so this helps with my level of comprehension. thanks all.

do you feel everything in the world must be proven by science? take evolution for example. atheists (richard dawkins most recently on bill o'reilly's show) and scientists alike haven't been able to explain this theory for how many thousands of years now? the oldest documented source of our beginning is widely available and people continue to seek out alternative explanations that help them feel at ease with their personal decisions and lifestyles. this world is not all about happiness.
how about we stop trying to understand in order to believe...and start believing in order to understand? it may cause a little uncomfortableness at first (as it did for me), but wouldn't you rather stop waiting for science to prove things it can't possibly do? i'm not opposed to scientifical findings, however i'll live my life in accordance to the Bible.
here's a link to an interesting movie that's coming out soon about some archaeologists who found the land where Moses received the 10 Commandments and many other facts detailed throughout Exodus in the Bible. probably more revealing than any scientific one supporting evolution. i encourage you and others to watch it -

I'm all for equal rights but not equal definitions. Your comments are also generalizing those who don't support gay marriage. I know non-religious people who don't agree with it, as well as religious people who did. Would you agree? I also disagree with your claim about finding God. I don't believe you're in the position (nor am I) to judge others. I'll leave that up to God, because that what it says in the Bible...among other things ;)
Sorry for the delay...busy weekend. I guess we'll agree to disagree, alocksee, as I don't believe human application to the "law" is always right. People have ulterior motives, pass laws/verdicts to stroke their egos and attempt to create a "legacies" during their time(s) in "power."
I also back up my arguments/position more divine sources, whereas yours are more earthly and capable of error in human judgement. I worship a Heavenly Father, and you cite (and arguably worship) Thomas Jefferson and inventors of Lemon Tests and other court verdicts. My intent is not to be sarcastic, but I see no reason to further argue points when you simply rely on the Law of the Jungle vs. the Law of the Lord. Secondly, my opinion does matter, because Madison is not here to defend himself. Thirdly, you weren't there to know his exact thoughts or interview him. Finally, his signature is not on the Declaration of Independence (DOI)...is it? Would you not agree that the Constitution pulled from the DOI?
Let me address your points on separation of church and state -
If he so desired such separation, then why did he (or others) allow "In God We Trust" on our money or national monuments after he passed in 1836. As I also stated before...can you explain why the same First Congress that proposed the Bill of Rights also opened its legislative day with prayer and voted to apportion federal dollars to establish Christian missions in the Indian lands?
I do agree with you that it was "intended" but you don't know to what extent.
