Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)

Just curious, though- if any of the "facts" I have learned via textbook and lecture are incorrect, please direct me to a text that provides solid evidence to the contrary. The two source that comes to mind of mine is The Harper Collins study bible and "The Bible as Literature" (a hugely secular book).

Hmm, I always thought the oldest Christian denomination were the messianic Jews, followers (and descendants) of "The Way." I also was taught (in college, not sunday school)that the Roman Catholic church is an actual part of the first Gentile church schism, which left us with several "catholic" churches, with the Roman variety being founded by Constantine. As such, Peter was never a catholic, roman or otherwise.
Of course, all of this is moot and the argument null if both protestants and catholics were to regard all who call Jesus their Lord as brothers, and do what the red words say. If memory serves, there were two laws that Jesus said are paramount. Neither law said anything about not having to love each other if one of the others were (insert behavior/ belief here).

Oh, last thing- We've been living in the end times since 33 Anno Domini. I just saw an ad starring Hagee, where he states Jesus wasn't sent to be the Messiah. Now, unless this ad is a forgery...

Can't say I can argue with that perspective, but I can point out one minor thing you may have overlooked- the huge oil-for-protection theory breaks down when applied to a national level, and is slightly off-kilter against the backdrop of real economic machination. Specifically, that oil is what lines the pockets of those who buy the elections. The reality of the situation defies simplistic "tit-for-tat" classification, or over-pressure explosive release due to "meddling." I would have to agree with the involvement having a role, but not with the assertion that this involvment (polite way of putting it, don't you think) isn't the prime cause, merely a convenient excuse. Thanks, by the way, that was one huckabee speech I'd not seen. As far as imperialism goes, though, one must remmeber that we're fighting against would-be theocratic imperialists. Or,at least that's what they say of themselves. As for the freedom of women in Iran, yeah, being stoned to death for kissing a man and thus dishonoring your family, being executed for being raped, yeah that's freedom. Yes, that happens in Iran too. Comparing SA and Iran in light of womens rights is like comparing the Holocaust and The Inquisition in twerms of which was nicer to the Jewish folk.

Wait a tick- Putting more emphasis on Jesus than Paul makes us heretics? Since when? What did I miss? I was taught those Red Letters trump everything, for if Jesus is God, then everything He says takes precedence over everything else.

Taking the approach that the attacks on 9/11 are because the U.S. and europe have been messing with the middle east is rather narrow, don't you think? I mean, it wouldn't have anything to do with them teaching their children we steal their money and keep them poor, does it? Or that we and the jews are descendants of pigs, huh? All this trash being fed their children, paid for by sultans in billion dollar palaces. But, no, sadly, it's the euro-american elitist imperialism that's to blame.

When did Huckabee say he'd amend the constittution to make this a more christian nation? Which speech, specifically?

Imagine that- a militant atheist on a Christian site. Tell me, oh wise Danny, knower of the real "truth"- Why does classical history support the claims of resurrection? Oh, and please do bring up the "Jesus Seminar," but don't forget they threw out any and all material containing the reference to Jesus as being the Son of God. Then, you can also explain to me that if these people witnessed what happened, these writers of the discarded, how should they or would they have described Him? Then, perhaps, you can enlighten all of us feeble minded Christians as to why tens of thousands of witnesses were willing to die rather than simply renounce Him, or bow in worship before the Emperor- including the Apostles. No man dies for a known lie. While you're at it, maybe you can explain why the prophecies in the Bible are so accurate that it was alleged that they were written after the fact? An allegation that no longer holds water, due to recent discoveries, by the way. So, oh wise Danny, please, enlighten.

Lastly, they will answer your query of why they adorn themselves with the luxurious with "The worker is worth his wages." Remember this- they're going to be very lowly in Heaven, as they've exhalted themselves here. Keep that in mind, and pity them. They know not what they do.

Whoa there sparky- the average Pastor's salary is no where near 7800 a month. I agree with much of what you posted, but I know the average Pastoral salary is closer to 30k, not 85-90k. Only the Rick Warren's and Falwell/ Hinn/ Robertson/ Elmer Gantry types approach the 6+ figures.
I always marvel at the attraction that Christian sites holds for atheists. Have you ever wondered what the lure was? I am truly curious, not just as to the "why" but also as to the self-questioning part. Have you ever stared at that for any length of time, or do you simply dismiss it off hand? I do hope I am not coming off negatively, I am genuinely and sincerely curious.
What does Jesus say concerning the Law and the Prophets? His Word dwarfs all others, and means all others MUST be taken in context to His. He says He's coming back- so, has all been accomplished? Sorry, homosexuaity is a sin. So is lying, so is coveting, an so on. None are greater or lesser in the Eyes of God, as all are transgressions against Him. I cannot say what fate beyond this world awaits any sinner (as only one Being can do so, and He certainly isn't posting on the internet- yet), but I would venture to guess that any who doesn't "bear their cross" or "deny their flesh" and do as Jesus commands it won't be pleasant, regardless of the nature of their sins.

Secondly, and more pressing, what are you talking about? As far as the emerging churches go, I mean? Are they the ones with a "feel-good" message? I have read my bible, and that is why I challenge you on this point. The "feel-good" message is built in the Bible! It says I am going to Heaven, because my penalty was paid. It saysif I have faith, I get to have a real and personal relationship with The Author of all existence! So, please clarify what an "emergent" church is. Homosexuality, by the way, is no greater a sin than lying. One of my favorite passages declares that he who breaks the least of the Law, breaks all of it (paraphrase). We cannot say "we live by grace, not by law" if we don't a) know the Law and b) not do as Christ commands- which includes observing the Law!

Question, as I have a true berean spirirt: Is tailoring services to cultural landscape heresy? Did not paul do as much? I will say that tailoring Scripture to the same is heresy, but when someone will explain to me the heretical and pagan practices the established church has implemented (Easter eggs/ Bunny, Christmas trees, yule logs, gifts for children on december 25th, et al) then perhaps I will be able to subscribe to the theory ereging churches are a last days heresy. If you belive me in error describing the pagan roots of the rituals I've listed, you'd better do your homework.

Um, here's a question- If Time Magazine says only five Christians were among the most significant artists and entertainers of the 20th century, then would that not serve as an example of a) where that particular magazines ideaology lay and b) just how breathtaking a Christian artist/ entertainer had to be to crack the list?

Folks, it's too bad we as a people are so forgetful. We aren't going to get the leader we need, we're going to get the leader we deserve. We had our choice between three elitist liars and a pastor, and it seems we'd rather have an elitist liar. We shall reap what we've sown.

Isn't it interesting, this wholesale dismissal and discrediting of "green" evangelical's? Quoting Scripture is fine, but if memory serves, there's a blurb in Genesis about Adam being a steward for Creation. Can man destroy this planet's environment? Absolutely- in fact, if one believes in the Eternal God, one could say He predicted we would, and sent the Word via His prophets. We normally call the most prominent and relevant prophecies the Book of Revek=lations. Again, going from an insomniac memory, I recall droughts and famine being predicted, as well as war and disease. Hmmm...
Basically, do not be so arrogant as to assume we stewards of Creation cannot foul it by lack of tending it the proper care. It could very well be this is part of The Plan, and concurrently could be a lesson to what happens when we disobey the very least of God's Law. Saying enviromentalism is akin to communism is rather foolish- communism regards nothing but the state.

So, if I am to understand this correctly, truth is determined by popular opinion? WRT the article, not the discussion. Am I also to believe, IRT the discussion, that people either believe in God and literal creation, or they are atheists and believe in Darwinism? By the way, quoting Biblical verse to non-believers is a waste of time, as it either enrages them and/ or prompts their mockery- as you well can see. Yes, a tolerant and eloquent bunch, they. Shout down ID or creationism while ignoring the fatal flaw in their argument.
Lastly, steveh20, do not atheists trot out the miracle when their explanation of llife's origin is lacking? The whole something from nothing, plus life from lifelessness paradox they embrace sounds more miracle than science.

Danny-
All communists are darwinists.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
