I'm a Christian because my genes make me what I am. I have no free will. lol."
Well, actually, your religiosity may very well be genetic. My skeptical nature makes it difficult for me to develop religious faith, I attribute it to genetics, my brain chemistry and morphology do not seem to allow for religious belief.....

seed, I'm a skeptic, its my nature, its who I am, perhaps thats how a creator made me, right?

Ah yes I do care, thats why I visit CP. I care about how other's beliefs encroach on my liberties to the extent that those beliefs find there way into public schools, the courts and the government. Keep your religion at home and at church and you not see me here on CP.

dp "We are quite temperal creatures who fail to see the big picture or the long run."
hmmm, big picture? wow, children born with crippling and fatal diseases are just part of the "big picture". LOL, thats nice to know as my friend's 25 year old sister just died after suffering from cystic fibrosis her entire life. The girl and her family really never appreciated " the big picture". It turned the father into an atheist.

wbmoore "She has been used by God to offer support to other women who have had miscarriages and anencephalic children. "
So, let me see if I understand what you are saying. God caused anencephaly in the fetus so this woman can help other woman under similar circumstances? I would think god would have better things to do such as, preventing the condition from occuring in the first place. If god can cause anencephaly, why wouldnt god instead prevent it and spare woman the pain and agony of the experience. To me, its suggests no god, rather than a god in play here.
"...as they have helped move her and others closer to God"
How does tragedy like this cause one to be closer to god? Seems it would work in the opposite way to me..

johnboy "When WE --both men and women-- treat the privilege of pregnancy for what it is... a GOD-given gift, that is when we will realize that ANY abortion is wrong."
Scenario:
"In utero brain destruction due to collapse of the fetal skull"
Mother made hard decision to abort.
Questions:
1. How was this serious deformity "gods gift"?
2. Was it wrong for the mother to abort a fetus that was not going to survive?
3. How is it any of yours OR the governments business?
I will answer the third. Simple answer- its not, thats why there is legal abortion. Its called empowerment. Empowerment for individuals to decide for themselves what is right, not you, not the government.

Here are the main reasons palin will not be next VP:
1. Poor economy, incumbent president gets the blame.
2. Bush numbers very low, mccain seen as more of the same.
3. Iraq war quagmire that mccain pushed from the beginning.
4. Palin a drag on ticket for a number of reasons-very limited knowledge base, ethical lapses.
5. Mccain seen as erratic and volatile.
6. Fear & hate mongering.
7. Flip-flopping.
8. Poor campaign strategy.

I love it pretty petty palin sure can dish it out, but doesnt take it very well when her character is being questioned. palin is like a lead weight for mccain, I bet he wished he hadn't gambled putting this unqualified bimbo on the ticket. disperate people do disperate things, US doesnt need another 4 years of poor decision making.

wrhalver, Well I got to tell you, the IEM poll seems to work pretty well. I remember I didnt want to believe it in 2004 when it was predicting bush to win, but win he did. As they stay in investing, "the trend is your friend", as an Obama supporter I like the trend.

good questions wrhalver, I dont have a breakdown on the participants. If one were to research it, Im sure the info. is out there, the link below might address some of your question
However, IEM predicted a bush win in 2004. Democrats at the time said the polling was biased towards republicans because "republicans are more likely to invest in markets", never mind that IEM predicted clinton in '92 and '96. The link below is an interesting paper talking about the bush lead in Sept 2004.

Here is an abstract for a paper written on the market approach for predicting elections :
Abstract
"Prediction markets" are designed specifically to forecast events such as elections. Though election prediction markets have been being conducted for almost twenty years, to date nearly all of the evidence on efficiency compares election eve forecasts with final pre-election polls and actual outcomes. Here, we present evidence that prediction markets outperform polls for longer horizons. We gather national polls for the 1988 through 2004 U.S. Presidential elections and ask whether either the poll or a contemporaneous Iowa Electronic Markets vote-share market prediction is closer to the eventual outcome for the two-major-party vote split. We compare market predictions to 964 polls over the five Presidential elections since 1988. The market is closer to the eventual outcome 74% of the time. Further, the market significantly outperforms the polls in every election when forecasting more than 100 days in advance.

To address your other question, no I did not pay for the information. I will repost the web site for the IEM, thats where I get my information and some info. from google searches. I am not participating in the IEM.

Dont think sarah goin to be DC in 2009. Back to Alaska to face criminal charges of abuse of powers for starters. Alaskins will deal with her after Nov 4th defeat.
