  • Christian Legal Group Launches 7th 'Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign'

One more note, any time a "group" puts "America, American, Freedom, Liberty or similar adjectives" in the name of their group, you better watch your pocket book. Cloaking Christianity as only "American" is not only prideful, but false.

    Belhaven,
Could not agree with you more. Propaganda it is. The conservative political movement is only using this to insure they maintain the voting block of conservative Christians. They could not care less about Christmas, except that it is good for business. The only people voicing this "war on Christmas" are those that keep fanning the fires of intolerance. Yes, as Christians should spread the Gospel to all lands, but how can we expect to make any kind of in-roads by alienating the ones we wish to win over to Christ?

I love prayer. But if we force prayer on the school system, it will only cause a backlash for all prayers in school. How unfortunate it is that we think only Christian prayers will be said.

America and Americans will not tolerate forced religion, no matter how much it is foist upon them. We cannot legislate salvation or the morals we share as Christians. A look at our own country's history proves that. How well did prohibition work? No one wants morality to suffer, but if you try to force someone to do "what you say", it will only result in them boning up and striking back.

If we wish to continue to worship in the freedom we now enjoy, we must stop trying to force people to do something that only the grace of God can accomplish. We must believe on our own, not be forced to believe.

Are they serious? An underlying motive to justify greed and veil the reality of problems in our society. They are remaking the word of God in their image. The use of comparative language of the proven Scripture versus what they say is implied intent. In some cases, Jesus spoke in parables for us to glean the intent of the message. When he spoke of the "rich young ruler" it was not his intent to make anyone forfeit the wealth they had accumulated. He spoke in terms that were simplified to understand. Wealth is not the key to Heaven. Neither is coveting what others have. We must humble ourselves before God, He was saying that riches on Earth distract one from doing His will.
An interpretation of the Sacred Word of God that has an agenda is blasphemy, if strikes to the image we as Christians try so hard to avoid, hypocrisy. This will only add to the negative opinion that the unsaved have about "church folks".
We must not allow this version to be preached from any pulpit, it surely will be a racially motivated, greed centered, "holier than thou" content laden and repugnant to God's will that it could destroy our witness to a lost and dying world.
I can still love them, pray for them, but support them, I cannot.

  • Health Care and Religious Freedom

Once again health care detractors miss the point that the plan does not force anyone to do anything is they don't choose to do so. The fervor here is not Christian, but reactionary media blitz by the Insurance companies, the supporters of those companies and the people that have never experienced problems with our current system.

    - Deuteronomy 24:10-13
When you make your neighbor a loan of any kind, you shall not go into the house to take the pledge. You shall wait outside, while the person to whom you are making the loan brings the pledge out to you. If the person is poor, you shall not sleep in the garment given you as the pledge. You shall give the pledge back by sunset, so that your neighbor may sleep in the cloak and bless you; and it will be to your credit before the Lord your God.

Faith is our belief in that which we cannot see. Not support for those that had control of congress for ten plus years and did nothing...........

  • Conservative Christians Plan to Stop Rush to Pass Health Bill

Health care has options. Complaining about Government intrusion is just an excuse to put your values of monetary gain rather than "promoting the general welfare".
By the by, the postal service is a "company" not a governmental agency. It was given to a group of investors during the Nixon administration.
Most of the protesters do not even know that Medicare is a governmental policy, even the ones who get the benefits.
As for "cash for clunkers", you must not have anyone in your family that has any connection to the auto industry. Most dealerships would disagree about its stimulation of their business. The ripple effect of the auto industry would amount in the lost of jobs, too numerous to mention. Like the cafe owner across the street from the plant. The supplier to the cafe, the farmers that supply the cafe, the equipment manufacturers, the plumbers, the electricians, the gas companies, the convenience store owners, the small businesses that rely on workers purchasing locally, the employees of all these businesses, but most of all the churches. Why? because there would be no money to put in the collection plates all over the country.
But remember, you don't own anything. God does, he only allows us to use it while we are here. Stop storing up storehouses on this earth, because ask anyone in heaven if they got to bring it with them.
How did conservatives get that name? Because they don't conserve anything, except gullible voters.
Think about how social security would have fared if the Republicans had gotten their wish and sent it to the stock market.
Fannie Mae was broken by the same greed by bankers speculating on housing loans.

  • Many Groups Still Believe Health Care Bill Covers Abortion

    Ok folks,
Abortion is wrong, but that is not the real issue here.
Christians are their brothers keepers. Then again our constitution states "provide for the general welfare".
Most of the complaints are about "death panels, don't touch my medicare, and don't mess with my social security". Not abortion. The President is against abortion or have you drank the Republican "kool-aid"?
Remember this is the same party that for ten years had control of Congress and did nothing. This is the same party who wanted to give social security to the stock market and Madoff type of investors.
By the way the counseling for seniors about options was authored by a Republican.
If helping secure medical insurance for everyone is bad, obviously you don't have medical bills, denying coverage your even when the same doctor is noted more than once same bill and they pay one charge but not the other.
It is easy to see how the traditional church is losing members right and left, we stopped caring for the poor.
Listen to the hype, but remember the meek shall inherit the Kingdom of God, not necessarily the Insurance company leaders and Christians that serve their bidding.
Do you want to be the rich man or the camel?

  • A Governor, a King, and the Tragedy of Adultery

Consistency is what the scriptures are about. Supporting widows and orphans, live an exemplary shine above the society in which we live, and not be swayed by those that put ritual above salvation are the true standards God spells out through James. Why is it then that Christians are quick to forgive Republican sinners, opposed to Democratic sinners? This action of selective sin forgiveness is not biblical. Why is one more important to Church eyes, than it is to God? Those who live in the conservative houses should not throw stones at Democratic sinners, failing to toss a few at Republicans, they are being the hypocrites that the mainstream media accuses the Church of being. Selective forgiveness does not give salvation, Jesus does. One last thing, what did the "Conservative Congress" do during the time they had control of both houses? They did absolutely nothing. All they did was pander to Christians to get their votes. Conservative "values" of the Republican party do nothing to help the widows and orphans. Catering only to the kings in fine clothing, that is not what Christ wanted, read it for your selves in the Word. Be the Christian that he wants, not sheep.

  • Southern Baptists Called to Look at Reality

"Born and raised" Southern Baptist, I've attended churches throughout our country. Moving with my job, my family "plugged in" where God planted us.
I have become troubled over the past years as evangelical has grown into meaning republican. In most cases Southern Baptists are true to the scriptures, yet there is a group that believes that any statement by a neo-conservative makes is the new gospel. Think about this, the "conservative" party had been in power until recently, how many abortion laws did they pass? How many marriage, sacred institution (between a man and a woman) bills did they force through congress?
The answer to both of these is none. Quit listening to Rush, Boortz, Hannity, and Coulter. Dig into the scripture, Jesus was a liberal. He helped the poor.
Patriotism is another issue that conservatives push on society, love of country is not a bad thing, but my King did not die wrapped in an American Flag, nor did he pledge allegiance to the American Flag, nor did he kill doctors because they disagreed with him, nor did he turn his back on the poor. Try to get a group of Southern Baptists together to do mission work in their community, shoot they would rather throw money at a missionary over seas, and if they do get involved on a personal level, they go out-of-town.
I've seen men walk out of a service because they did not venerate the flag, some "believers" have misplaced their loyalty. Mine is to Jesus, the Christ; how about you?
The last time a political party forced patriotism down the public's collective throat, their leader had a "little zizzy" mustache and spoke of the thousand year Reich.
Our allegiance is to the Holy One, not to any man.
