I know it must be hard in dealing with someone who wants to control you and to claim that God said such and such perhaps even you looking for it to happen but was disapppointed and hurt that it did not. I also detect some unforgiveness in your heart towards her and those like her.
Unforgiveness is a powerful tool of Satan to destroy relationships and to bound people up. As long as Satan can imprison you in it he can control your life and make it miserable through the people and circumstances in your life.
God requires that we forgive those who have done us wrong. Jesus said that if you don't forgive those who have done you wrong God will not forgive you. (Matt 6:15)
Forgiveness brings healing and it is liberating. (I know this from personal experience.) I would like to encourage you to go to God in prayer and ask Him to help you forgive your sister from your heart, and when He does confess it. Pray for her that God will deal with her in her sins, open her eyes to truth, and bring her to repentance.less

I was not talking about desired qualitites in those who are called into the professional ministry. I was refering to characteristics of people who have the gift of Prophet, Server, Teacher, Exhorter, Giver, Ruler (Administrator), One who shows Mercy.
I have had a Pastor who was gifted for Administration. Preaching was not his strength. Organizing and leading was. I had a Pastor who was gifted for Serving. Preaching was not his strength but helping people was. He would be quick to help someone in his church who needed help like going to the doctor, putting in an air-conditioner, fixing someone car's, picking up people for Church. His home was always open. Many times I would be at their house fellowshipping with them. I have had many Pastors who were gifted for teaching. They were very good at helping you understand the Word of God. I had a Pastor, a Southern Baptist Evangelist who God called into the Pastorate after 17 yrs in Evangelism, was gifted as a Prophet. There wasn't a service where people didn't get saved or repented from sin in their life. Mickey Bonner, the Southern Baptist Evangelist where I got a lot of this stuff from was an Exhorter.
You have entirely misuderstood what I meant by what I said. People who are gifted as a Prophet preaches, for example, with a style that calls out sin, cuts things to pieces, and calls people to repentance. They tend to be blunt. It is with them 'repent or perish!'. This kind does little in terms of explaining anything. It is not in their way of thinking.
Those who have the gift of teaching are always wanting to explain everything and do not approach preaching with the same kind of style that a Prophet does. Their focus is different. They want you to understand what God's Word says. The pastor I have now has the gift of teaching. He explains everything. Many times he will ask us after he has finished his sermon, "Did you learn something today?" The focus of a teacher's teaching is for you to understand what the Word of God says and not one where sin is focused on and a call to repent like it is with a person who is gifted as a Prophet. Calling people to repentance like a Prophet type would do isn't a focus nor is encouraging spiritual betterment a focus like it would be for one who is an exhorter.
The main gist of an Exhorter is one of encouraging people to spiritual betterment and they too do not focus on explaining things like one who is gifted as a Teacher nor do they call out sin, cut things to pieces, and says repent or perish like a Prophet would.less
One function of a Prophet is to speak for God. God has revealed to me that He wants me to speak for Him in regard to doctrine. But I can't right now because of certain kinds of sin in my life. But if and when I repent then God will have me to do it but I will do it with a teaching style, which is the way I think, and not in the style of a Prophet.

One of the two New Year's resolutions I made with the Lord in 1980 was I wanted to know what my place was in the kingdom of God. God answered my prayer without me really realizing it. But before He answered there were things I had to deal with in my life. One was surrendering to God to put His will first in my life. Then He had me deal with my relationship problems. Afterwards He dealt with my need to forgive my mother who had abused me verbally and psychologically while I was growing up. After I forgave my mother and asked Him to fill me with His spirit my life changed. He healed my wounded spirit, and set me free to love people according to 1 Cor 13:4-7.
I use to like listening to good Bible teachers. My Pastor at the time was one such person. But after I forgave my mother and was filled with God's spirit, then I no longer wanted to listen to good Bible teachers but wanted instead to be the teacher.
When the new year approached I made 5 requests of God of what I would like to see happen in my life in 1981. Four of them are of a spiritual nature. They were as follows:
1) I wanted to be a woman of prayer
2) I wanted to grow in the knowledge and wisdom of God
3) I wanted to know what my spiritual gift was and to use it
4) I wanted to be a soul winner
I had had many psychological problems growing up that resulted in me having relationship problem. The first six months of 1981 God taught me why I did the things that I did. Afterwards, God began to send me out into the world I lived in to minister God to people. He always brought someone in my life with a similar problem that I was having. I was able to relate to that person. I would point them to Jesus as an answer to their problem(s), and I would pray for their needs.
I grew in my knowldege of God, His Word and would share according to what God had taught me with those who He gave me to minister to. My ministry grew over time and it took on and still does many different forms.
God has done many thing through the ministry He has given me. People have been saved, healed, had miracles done in their life, and etc.
I did not know or was aware of what my spiritual gift was even though I was operating in it. After a long period of time I suspected it was Teacher since that is what I found my self doing all the time regardless of whether I was prophesing, serving, teaching, exhorting, giving, ruling, or showing mercy to those who needed mercy.
The teaching I have given on this thread I heard from the Southern Baptist Evangelist Mickey Bonner (now deceased). His teaching has helped me see that I have the motivational gift of teacher and that many of the problems I have stem from walking in the flesh.less

For me it is Teacher. A teacher is someone who is always wanting to explain everything. No matter what God has asked me to do in terms of prophesing, serving, teaching, exhorting, giving, ruling, or showing mercy I find myself opening to and wanting to explain in detail some kind of spiritual truth that I feel is pertinant to the situation. oldstudent - My discussions have been on the gifts mentioned in Romans 12:6-8 not the ministry gifts mentioned in 1 Cor 12:27,28, Eph 4:11-12, or the manisfestation gifts mentioned in 1 Cor 12:7-11 which you are using to disagree with what I wrote. Please give your understanding of Romans 12:6-8.

I feel led to share some things about spiritual gifts that I learned from listening to a teaching given by a Southern Baptist Evangelist by the name of Mickey Bonner (now deceased).
The Word of God talks about spiritual gifts. These gifts can be broken down into three categories. They are the motivational gifts (Romans 12:6-8), the ministry gifts (1 Cor 12:27,28, Eph 4:11-12), and the manisfestation gifts (1 Cor 12:7-11).
Scripture is clear about what the ministry gifts are (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher, working of miracles, healing ministries, service ministries, leadership, tongues). Scripture is also clear on what the manisfestation gifts are that God give according to His will that all may profit (word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, divers tongues, and interpretation of tongues).
But what about the motivational gifts?
The motivational gifts are what I want to focus on here. I hope it will be of some help.
God gives to each person who becomes born-again a spiritual gift that, in a sense, controls how the believer thinks, what drives him, why he does what he does, how he approachs everyday life and situations, shows a talent for, finds joy and fulfillment in when operating in his gift, and etc. Each believer gets only one gift and that gifts remains with him through out his entire life.
There are 7 types of gifts of this nature. They are identified in Romans 12:7-11. They are 1)Prophet, 2) Minister-Servant, 3) Teacher, 4) Exhorter, 5) Giver, 6) Ruler/Leader/Administrator, 7) Mercy. These 7 gifts I refer to here are termed "motivational gifts".
Most believers, if not all, want to know what his/her spiritual gift is it. What do they have a talent for? How do they use their gift.less
