  • The Battle is Over? - Bishop Spong Exits the Debate

The Western World has been blessed by a Greek like philosophical and intellect approach to debate on issues high up in our Greek Pantheon. However, certain foundations are a taken and should never be subject to debate such as basic rights and freedoms, in this case the very existence, self respect, and dignity of GLBT people. The call to debate by the Christian Right is like a Robber coming into your home, insist on their right to your property because God told him so, and then graciously permits a dialogue for you to justify to him why it should not be so. A debate under such context is no debate but robbery and an insult to humanity and decent human behavior. When we recognized this and learn to say “no” to their Christian right agenda hidden under the cloak of religion, then it is the start of victory. A manifesto pasted on the church doors would be useless because they will not change, and will continue in their sins, for it has to be pasted on the foreheads of GLBT people so engraved in their minds as to not let this deception by the Christian Right go on any longer.

The manifesto is not about disengaging in debate and dialogue, but is a change of mindset, a loud declaration of "No", to the lack of morality, integrity, and humanity, of the Christian Right in a debate which should never have occurred in the first place. It is a manifesto to be inserted to the large open mouths of the Fundamentalist Christian movement so that we would no longer need to listen to their mindless rhetoric, and empowering the GLBT population not to ever accept their false rhetoric anymore but to claim what is rightfully ours, the basic rights, dignity and morality denied. It is a cry of defiance that we shall take our basic rights for granted no more, and the time is come to claim our basic rights and humanity from those who tried to take it away without standing down. We shall not take “no” anymore for an answer. We have waited too long, have been too gracious waiting for the unrepentant Christians to see the light when we should have long ago stood up, stand proud, and said enough is enough. We will not tolerate, nor accept being a second class citizen, but demand that the Christian Right be duly taken into account of all the harm caused.

The battle is just starting - exiting the dialog is like exiting the peace talks because there is no point talking when one side is not interested and demand the destruction of the other party. It's a battle cry rather than a back down....

The issue here is of interpretative challenges where the model of sexuality is not addressed at that time. The model of sexual behaviour were temple prostitution, dominant humiliation, gay sex for some new sexual trill not done by gays but by straight guys. The model of homosexuality that we have is an innately loving, long term relationship with the blessing of God. When we examine the biblical text, we have to understand the model of sexual behaviour, what were the concerns that motivated these prohibitions and whether this apply. It would be grossly unjust to consider a ruling based on a set of facts, and arbitrarily apply it to another set of facts without consideration whether the facts are similar enough to address the same concerns.
The Isralelites took up the worship of Baal involving mass sexual orgies. Their sexual rampage and passion for the sexual orgies were so widespread in their worship of idols that the mass sexual orgies between opposite sexes were not sufficient that they even had sex with the same sex which is totally unnatural for straight people of whom the majority of Israel was and still is until today. (Roms 1:24-28). Paul was reminding the Jews what their ancestors did despite having the law, and despite claiming to be pious and holy to have a passion not to sin and follow strictly the torah. They are no different and were still the same like their forefathers " ... filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;" (Roms 1:29-32). In essence, in the defence of the true Gospel and Christian walk which is by Grace against the demands of the observance of the law by the Jews, Paul launched one of the most heated judgmen against the artificial religion of the Jews, claiming to follow the law yet have never changed since the ancient of days.

Prior to the vote, the sponsors did not intend to pursue the existing gay marriages that has already been approved. They also changed their mind after the narrow victory which is understable but not really fair nor very wise because it will affect the legality of the vote.

It is not "fair" but they need agree to abide by the church' rules. Blaming the California Supreme Court to adjudicate is wrong because they are just interpreting the agreement which the churches entered into which is very clear.

The ban against Gay marriage is also "unfair" - Gay marriages it's against the bible some say, but forgotten that Gays never signed up to this jurisdiction - which is internal to the church.

I am sorry for Ted Haggard. He is gay but he is married and therefore must remain faithful to his wife irrespective of his sexual orientation.

It is a sad predicament on the church that has forced many gay man to get married causing incredible strain on the relationships with their wives and family breakdown.
But once, married, there is no option to divorce.

  • Many Americans Say Christianity Not the Only Way to Eternal Life

We have been involved in too many battles - in gay marriages, against abortion, that we somehow missed
the centrality of Christ as the truth, and the way.

We have let a lot of things go, the worship of the many idols in the Catholic Faith whom declare themselves as Christians. If the Catholics can worship Mary, and St Paul, why not Buddha? Christianity then becomes related to the culture and religion that we are born into - with many ways to God.

It is time for the church to pause, and reflect on the important issues.

And yet, no one talks about the thousands of Christian

  • Church Ad Banned for Being Offensive to Gays

Paul was referring to the ancestors of the Jewish legalist in Rome, who were so zealous for the law, yet broke them. Defintely unnatural as they were straight people worshipping fertility gods in Ancient Israel, and had same sex acts to please the gods in addition to sex orgies with women.

I would have preferred the ban being on an ad with "Gospel message".

Indonesia has some of the largest churches - attended mainly by Chinese Indonesians speaking bahasa Indonesia. It is not militant country. It's constitution quarantees religious freedom. There was a revival in the 1960s, exemplified by "Like A mighty rushing Wind" by Mel Tari. In one incident, they walked in the monsson rain but God provided a cover that non of them got wet. Such was the mighty move of God with power, signs and wonders which started the Christian Revival in Indonesia.

I would suggest that each Christian group has their own reason to support proposition 8 - the mormons, the Catholics, and the Evangelicals. The whole story is much more complex. What you see is not necesarrily the truth with lots of things no one will ever tell you.

I am sure that you have facts based on the Singapore constitution. I suggest you review it again.
Yes, Sometimes I feel it is run out of a church as you say, but you still can't preach to the Muslims, in the country, and to the North and South of it. So how can it be? And for the rights on immorality? the straight people have taken all the rights indeed.
There is also so much idolatory everywhere but I suppose gays are the greatest problem and so they must be banned.

  • Calif. High Court to Take Up Gay Marriage Ban

    thelamb_777 »
    Thu Nov 20, 2008 4:21 pm Agree: 1   Disagree: 0

It's a very narrow passing of proposition 8, so to say that it is the will of the people is not really reflective.
If Christians intends to emphasis this fact, then the will of the people must also apply to a lot of countries where Christians are not influential, and so the will of the people may mean banning of Christianity.

Yes, we are in a war - the war for the souls of men and women - all round the world. If we behave like King David and thought the war is on gays, then we are destracted from our commission by a high level demonic deception.

  • Ted Haggard Speaks on Scandal for First Time

    thelamb_777 »
    Mon Nov 17, 2008 7:17 pm Agree: 2   Disagree: 1

We should be very clear of what is the sin here. If it was a straight women that had seduced Ted, it would not make it a lesser sin, as it was adultery that was the problem. Once married, irrespective of our innate orientation, we are stuck with it through good and bad times.

The unfortunate situation here is that Ted has suffered, and the name of the church as a whole has suffered. Ted has sinned, but the church too has sinned by putting undue pressure to conform for gays to put them into unnatural closets. What if evangelicals have been wrong on the issue of homosexuality, on our interpretation of the bible. We have made a very big issue out of it, and so it is a very big problem.

I wish Ted, the best of God's grace and mercy as he recovers and built a strong relationship. I do however, hope that he will be honest with his orientation, and for this incident to let him see the gay community in a different light - especially the many who has remained faithful to the faith and have abstained from sex outside a committed long term relationship.

It's just one of the wars we get into, which
we will never get out without lots of sratches?
soon Christians will loose apetite for fighting, because
it really doesn't impact them or their marriages. But once a fight is started, will our basic rights we take for granted be at risk?

Will we gain anything out of it? Will the Gospel mandate be extended to the Arab world, to India, and China?

  • Christians Mark Some Victories in Marriage, Abortion Battles

    thelamb_777 »
    Thu Nov 06, 2008 8:47 am Agree: 1   Disagree: 1

I believe that the ban against gay marriages should never be considered on the same plane as abortion. One is a private matter of love of a small group of people, but the other is the deliberate intention to take away life by the remaining 95% of straight folks. All the losses were abortion issues which is not good news at all.

  • Californians Pass Gay Marriage Ban

    thelamb_777 »
    Thu Nov 06, 2008 8:39 am Agree: 1   Disagree: 0

The issue here is that it was very close and the trend over the last 10 years means that it would be much greater effort and more than 40 million the next time around in 4 years time. The methods used and the TV ads which were very misleading speaks volume of the low path we needed to take to this through.

The Christian community in America will have lost a lot. If you go back to the first crusade, in 1095, the financial cost was great and they had to tell a lie, that you will go the heaven if you do join in the crusade. We lost - our morality and our focus.

Whether gays get married or not, with their small numbers just would not matter. But what we did is in essence put a barrier which may never be broken and they will become our main antagonist. Until today, there is few Christian witness in Arab countries, and the Muslim faith has been a torn our side.

The line is drawn in the sand. It is a line of no return for the church, our faith, and how the Gay community will forever deal with us. It is a sad day, not for the Gay community, but for the church.

  • S.F. Christians Out to Break 'Sodom and Gomorrah' Mentality

    thelamb_777 »
    Mon Nov 03, 2008 6:56 pm Agree: 2   Disagree: 0

Sodom and Gommorrah, had a big problem - they were not a population of gay people, they were straight but very evil. They conquered surrouding nations - and brutally subdued them and put them in to slavery - their cruelty - they raped women and men. They raped men not because of love, but to make those they conquered a lower class of people. It was symbolic because it made the men they raped "women" and loosing all dignity. This was so awful to a patriachal society where men rules over women as property. here was no problem in raping women because they were considered as property. But to rape men was just unforgivable.
If there was a Sodom, and Gommorah, it would be wall street! where many lost all their life savings because many of these guys were crookes. Power and wealth corrupts until the basic dignity of man is corrupted.
