Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (JN 8:32)
Yawn....
LMAO! Between the highfalutin, "scholarly" language, and the specious arguments, I had to skip to the end to find out about Mr. Gagnon's credentials. His PhD is in theology. Why am I not surprised? Don't waste your time with this article. It's more christial claptrap clothed in scholarly language.
As a very contented, cohabitating homosexual, I can assure you that I am not looking to "the Church" for love. I had the good sense to realize years ago (before I realized that I was gay) that "the Church" was not my friend and that christians were, in fact, a sect of people that had empowered themselves to mind my business for me. I have no need for "the Church" to nourish my spirit. I can manage that myself - through love and commitment to my family, friends and community. So, please spare us your love. We're better off without it.

Poor mis-understood Matt Barber, the male policy director of Concerned Women of America (I guess they couldn't find a qualified woman for the job). Having pounced on the UCSF announcement to issue a gloating press release, and then another press release to invite the major gay advocacy organizations to vilify their own, he is now confused about why his press is so bad. It's bad, Matt, because the public are idiots. It's bad because you're only credible among the christian conservatives. So, wash away those big tears and keep talking to yourself, and don't be surprised when you find that only you are listening.

As a gay guy, I find it terribly difficult to sympathize with the poor misunderstood christians who have made it a business to spread hatred about gay people. It's not the sin they hate, but the sinners. You reap what you sow.

Sounds like more of the same to me: love the sinner, hate the sin. Except now we're sugar-coating it. Christ said nothing about homosexuality. He did counsel those without sin to cast the first stone, however. Isn't it time to leave judgement to the almighty and get on with our own lives?
Tim Wilkins doesn't get it: "The Church has a responsibility to proclaim that homosexuality is a sin." Churches don't proclaim, people do, and if all people are sinners, it would be best for Wilkins and his ilk to concentrate on redeeming themselves rather than on proclaiming that others are sinful. This is the message of the Barna survey, and the reason that 85% on non-christians (and a majority of christians themselves) find christianity as practiced today hypocritical. It is not for us to judge. It is for us to strive to be better than we are.
Taking instruction on "moral evils" from Chuck Colson, reknown burglar, liar and hatchet man for disgraced president Richard Nixon seems somewhat unwise. He is, after all, himself "moral evil." I'm not convinced he'd recognize it if it bit him on the behind.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
