Perhaps the reason the Catholics in the US have remained conservative is because they are being led by a former Presbyterian. Interesting article today:

tamna I have no idea what the contrast is, but if you do a search of Franklin Graham and Catholicism you will see that he has been supportive.

It doesn't even make sense to compare the 1 Catholic Church with thousands of individually run pentacostal churches, they don't agree amongst themselves.

blah, blah, blah,...the article is about a protestant leader begging for forgiveness and humble and forgiving Catholics granting it to to him. "He's seen the light!!!" Powerful article about a lost person seeing the light. I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see. Unfortunately, there are those in darkness perhaps one day like this protestant leader they will also see the light ...love this article :)

Quecat,
"God bless Mr Packer for adhering to the truth of scripture over the opinions of men"...his writings reveal what you have stated. Read the link I posted to his article last year. His writings are very Catholic.

I'm sorry I thought we were discussing J.I. Packer, a protestant theologian who I respect. His writings speak for themselves. A truly good Christian who God willing will find his way into the Catholic Church.

I've always liked and respected the work people like Packer and Colson have done in the evangelicals and Catholics together movement. I especially like the article he wrote last year: http://www.firstthings.com/onthesquare/?p=908.
Perhaps its time Re. Packer to cross the Tiber?

I wish there were more protestant ministers like Franklin Graham
Interesting article
It's sad that an article that highlights Catholics and Evangelicals working together for good would be put down by people who only want to focus on negative diatribes. Great article Mr. Colson and keep them coming.
Chris,
As for your question about unity between Catholics and Orthodox Churches - it gets better every day, here's the last week:

This year is the 15th anniversary of a group that Fr. Richard Neuhaus and I started called Evangelicals and Catholics Together. It's a beautiful thing when Christian groups work together to accomplish a lot of good in the world. God Bless you in your ministry.

Evangelicals Give Mixed Reactions to Pope's Visit....seriously who cares what they think of the visit? I mean why are they so focused on what the leadership of the Catholic Church is doing? wait , for a moment I forgot the incredible importance of the Catholic Church for Christianity...ok please disregard my question.
Rather, it is the key to understanding how much we really have in common, and how much we need one another to defend against those who want to destroy all Christians, regardless of denomination...beautifully put.

What a great example of a person who is living his Christian faith.
On our own we are little more than bits of stone and glass. Together we are the Body of Christ. Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ in His Word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings.
