I have been a SBC pastor 28 years, and the worldliness and lack of commitment in the church is astounding. The liberalism of Rick Warren has been working on us since the 80's, and it means less people not more. The lack of commitment among modern day members is astonding. We need old fashioned, prayer, preaching, church discipline.

"We wanted to get at the real situation with clear research " Ed Stetzer

Yea, right. All that was shown was the answers teenagers gave and a few weak suggestions, never touching the real problem: that the vast majority of kids went to public schools where they were indoctrinated with secular humanism for 12 years. Finally, when these kids become teenagers, they drop out. Notice NOTHING in the research was given about public school influence, homeschool, etc. if you want a REAL study, get three groups of kids, one group that has been in public school all along, another that has been in Christian school all 12 years, and a thrid group that have been homeschooled. What you will find in striking, while most public school kids are abandoning the church in their later teenage years, most homeschool kids are staying. If we as Christians were obeying the biblical educational mandate to give our children a thoroughly Christian education, this drop out rate would not be near this severe.

Christians: give your kids a throughly Christian education with homeschool or Christian school, make sure they are receiving a fully developed christian worldview 24/7 instead of goverment school indoctrination for 12 years, and this problem will begin to diminish.

I hope that those at Lifeway research will have the guts to shine their light on this area of education and it's effect on church retention. I am afraid that they don't have the courage, but if they could set their biases against homeschool aside and research it and publish the results, the church worldwide would be helped.
