'Highway of Holiness' Counters Impure Culture

A counter-culture initiative in cities along the I-35 highway is seeking to bring spiritual reformation in American culture.

For 35 days of the "I-35: Highway of Holiness" initiative, at least 12 cities along I-35 will host 24-hour prayer rooms. The initiative is part of the Light the Highway movement and will be held Oct. 28 - Dec. 1 along the 1,500-mile length of I-35, with events from Laredo, Texas, to Duluth, Minn. – the ends of the interstate.

"We want to start to build a Highway of Holiness for God that unites our nations, from the Canadian border to the Mexican border, and eventually extends around the world," said Cindy Jacobs, founder of Light the Highway, in a statement. Light the Highway is a movement to bring spiritual reformation to cities, then regions and finally nations.

Throughout the campaign, young people will hold "Purity Sieges" where they "lay siege" by praying at sites of impurity in their cities, such as abortion clinics and pornography stores.

Activities during the I-35 initiative also include a "Radical Evangelism" effort by Heartland School of Ministry in Irving, Texas.

Each week, the school will send evangelism teams to two cities – one to the north and one to the south – working their way toward Dallas. The teams will be involved in street evangelism, hold youth rallies and network with the local Body of Christ.

The I-35 initiative was inspired by the Isaiah 35:8: "A highway will be there, a roadway, and it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for him who walks that way, and fools will not wander on it."

The highlight of "I-35: Highway of Holiness" will be "5 Nights of Miracles" at first Trinity Church in Cedar Hill in the Dallas area, Nov. 27-30, and then at Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas on Dec. 1.

"Pray for God to remove the roots of violence in your city. Repent on behalf of the bloodshed that has occurred and ask for God's cleansing and forgiveness to cover the land," urged organizers in the I-35 website. "Let's prepare the highway for our God!"
