Legendary gospel singer Yolanda Adams embarked today on her 7th national tour, entitled the Yolanda Today tour, along with fellow Grammy nominee J. Moss, hip-hop violinists Nuttin But Stringz, and special musical guests Eddie Levert, Chaka Khan, Kirk Whalum, and others.
Adams, who was recently nominated for three Grammy awards, believes the inclusion of mainstream music guests on Yolanda Today continues a mission that she began long ago.
Weve been trying for years to bridge the gap between what people think are churched and non-churched people. Youd be so surprised how many folks came from the church that are singing pop and R&B, she explained. The people that we are having on our tour all came from the Church. Most people of faith dont realize that these are also people of faith!
Sponsored by Comcast and Southwest Airlines, "Yolanda Today" is scheduled for more than 25 cities, including Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, Baltimore and Detroit, with the show stopping tonight in Louisiana's capitol city, Baton Rouge, for a special benefit concert for survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
"Yolanda Today" attendees will be able to hear Adams perform tunes from her latest CD, Day By Day, which include the number one hit single "Be Blessed" as well as the track, "Someone Watching Over You," which was one of the most added records at urban adult contemporary radio this fall.
