Announcements of Black Friday deals or discounts have been constant, and stores have scheduled a wide range of store hours, which suggest that shoppers will get a jump on other bargain hunters by showing up at midnight on Friday or even at 4:00 a.m. or 5:00 a.m.

Some stores are scheduled to open as early as 9:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving evening.

Deals are varied and if shoppers do their homework they can find some surprising bargains, like purchasing an iPod Touch for $199.99 to receive a $50 free store gift card from Toys R Us. Shoppers will be able to purchase the iPod Touch device and be able to use the $50 gift card, which can be used on any product in the store, to give an effective price of $149.99.

Other stores are also offering similar deals: purchasing the iPod at Target for $195 will give customers a $40 gift card, and purchasing the iPod at Radio Shack for $199.99 will give customers a $30 gift card.

For many outlets, sales will also be available online, which has encouraged stores to publish circulars or announcements concerning discounts and deals early.
