'2016: Obama's America' Opening in Nation's Capital, 400 More Theaters

August 22, 2012|12:16 pm

"2016: Obama's America" is coming to the Washington, D.C., metro region this weekend as it opens in 400 more theaters.

Already considered a box office success after opening in less than 200 theaters, "2016" is continuing to expand and may be shown on as many as 700 screens.
The documentary-style film, which is based on best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza's books, examines the question, "If Obama wins a second term, where will we be in 2016?"
D'Souza traveled across four continents to "find answers to Obama's past and reveal where America will be in 2016."
"One of the themes in the movie is the anti-colonial goal of downsizing America in the name of global justice," D'Souza, who worked in the Reagan White House as a policy analyst, told The Christian Post in an earlier interview. "So, the core idea here is that America has become a rogue nation in the world and also that America enjoys a standard of living that is unconscionably high compared to the rest of the world.
"Obama's goal is to shrink America. He wants to reduce America's footprint in the world because he thinks we are stepping on the world."
The producer of the film is Gerald R. Molen, best known for his Academy Award-winning Best Picture "Schindler's List." His other films include "Rain Man," "Jurassic Park," "Twister," "Days of Thunder," "Hook" and "Minority Report."
According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, "2016" took in $1.2 million over the weekend – an average of $7,300 per screen, making it the second highest per-screen-average film among major releases this past weekend. The film saw a nearly 300 percent increase over its previous week's total, making it the 13th highest grossing film of the week.
