2018 Volvo XC60 Release Date, Specs News: All-New Midsize SUV Teased Ahead of Geneva Motor Show Debut

Volvo recently released teaser images for the newest iteration of the Swedish automobile manufacturer's midsize sports utility vehicle (SUV), the XC60, in anticipation of its debut at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show this March.

The refreshed XC60 will sit in between the larger XC90 SUV and the all-new XC40 compact crossover that is expected to arrive later this year.

Volvo has yet to reveal the XC60 in its entirety but the sneak peeks confirm that the SUV will be very similar to the XC90. One teaser image hints at the XC60's "Thor's hammer" LED headlights and large chrome grille while another teaser image previews the SUV's profile with a glimpse of the angular tailgate. Though the XC60 will have the same design language as the XC90, these elements are expected to be shrunken as the midsize SUV will have smaller dimensions.

According to AutoExpress, the 2018 Volvo XC60 will use a shortened version of the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) used by the XC90, the S90 and the V90. The use of this platform means that the next-generation XC60 will have a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. This will then translate to more spacious interiors.

The upcoming SUV is expected to be offered with 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines. Down the line, Volvo may also release a hybrid variant. Power output for these variants could range from 200 to 400 horsepower.

Though Volvo has not released specific details for the 2018 XC60 SUV, it is expected to have the latest technologies including the new Sensus infotainment system and a variety of active safety features like Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Autopilot.

Once released to the market, the all-new XC60 is expected to go up against the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 SUV will be unveiled during the automaker's press conference at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7 at 10:45 a.m. CET / 4:45 a.m. EST.
