5 Bible Verses for Husbands

Remember the time when you were head over heels for your wife? She was endowed with qualities that made you fall for her. She still is beautiful and smart and will continue to be for the rest of your life. Just beware of the devil who is lurking out there ready to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).

The truth is, it's easy to stay in love with your wife just by following God's principles of being a good husband, as outlined in the Bible. The jungle fever associated with young love is long gone, but taking its place is a tender kind of love that is real and will last a lifetime.

Once you have this kind of love, you will miss your wife when one of you goes out of town. Your mood lights up upon seeing her when you come home tired from work. You will find her attractive despite the wrinkles and graying hair. Spending time out of the house without her would be less fun. If you want that kind of feeling, read the verses below and take them to heart.

"Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother, and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." (Genesis 2:24)

God is saying that a man should have established himself to be able to start a family when he decides to settle down. That means he should be prepared physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially.

"In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself." (Ephesians 5:28)

A good husband should put his wife's happiness and interests above his own.

"However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband." (Ephesians 5:33)

Earning high respect from the wife is a husband's greatest accomplishment. He is a failure without it even if he gains the respect of the whole world.

"Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her." (Ephesians 5:25)

Christ gave the ultimate sacrifice for His bride. A husband is expected to do the same if the occasion comes.

"Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them." (Colossians 3:19)

It has been said that a man ceases to be a man the day he hurts his wife. Manliness is not proven in violence but by standing up for what is right.
