5 Classic Christian-Themed Shows for Families

1) Touched by An Angel

Touched by an Angel was a show that introduced the world to angels Monica, Tess, and Andrew, and later Gloria.

Monica, who the series follows, was sent by God to help people stuck in a certain period of trials in their life. She was there to reassure them that there was a God that loves them.

Tess was the supervising tough angel, while Andrew was the angel of death.

The show ran 211 episodes from 1994-2003.

2) 7th Heaven

Who doesn't know the 7th Heaven theme song? The show was very popular in the mid 90s to early 2000s and followed the lives of Rev. Camden's family.

The protestant minister had 7 kids and a dog, who just always seemed to get in some sort of trouble...probably the worst PK kids ever!

The show ran for 243 episodes seasons from 1996-2007.

Some have criticized the show for their lax attitude toward Christianity and the handling of other subjects on the show, but all in all 7th Heaven was a family show about a group of not so perfect people trying to follow God's path.

3) Promised Land

Promised Land started as a spin off to an episode of Touched by an Angel. It only ran for three seasons, 1996-1999.

The show follows Russell Greene and his family as he moves them across the country in an effort to find a new job. However, things were not what they seemed when they got there.

The show really did not dwell too much on faith content other than they were a Christian family who trusted in God's provision and plan for them.

4) Highway to Heaven

Highway to Heaven ran from 1984-1989 and starred Michael Landon as angel Jonathan Smith.

Jonathan is on probation from God, and sent to Earth to work to try and earn his wings. He teams up with a human companion, Mark, and they set out on missions given to them by God to help and encourage families who could use a little heavenly intervention.

5) Little House on the Prairie

Little House on the Prairie is a classic television show that was adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books.

This show also starred Michael Landon as the father, Charles, along with his family as they lived and struggled on a farm in 1870s Minnesota.

Generations of families grew up watching this show as it remains a classic that is still in syndication in places.

It ran from 1974-1983 and spanned over 200 episodes.
