'6000: Rokusen' News: Another Manga is Heading for the Big Screen
Another work of manga is being adapted into a feature film. Gentosha Comics, the Japanese publisher behind the thriller manga series "6000: Rokusen" or "6000: The Deep Sea of Madness" is said to be partnering with All Nippon Entertainment Works and Mike Medavoy, the producer of "Black Swan," to work on the film adaptation of the said series.
The film, which will be done in English, will be about an underwater research facility situated 6,000 meters below the sea somewhere in Southeast Asia, according to Variety. It is the setting of a mysterious disaster that apparently trapped and killed the crew. After its closure, a Chinese company buys the facility and tries to re-open it. It sends a new crew composed mostly of Japanese engineers and technical people to set it up and have it running again. As they try to do this, they encounter more strange and dangerous things inside the facility and this causes tension among the new crew members.They are holed up under the sea without any other place to go.
According to Medavoy, the fact that this was a thriller was what drew his attention to the series.

"We were immediately drawn to the tension of '6000' and are looking forward to bringing this psychological thriller to the international movie audience," he said.
Medavoy is also known for his work in "The Thin Red Line," "Zodiac," "Shutter Island," and a Chilean mining drama called "The 33," which will be released in theaters Nov.13.
Medavoy is producing the film together with Edward McGurn and Ben Anderson. Overseeing the project for ANEW is Tara Billik.
This is not the first Japanese IP that ANEW is working to adapt for films. Also in the pipeline are "Ghost Train," "Birthright," "Soul Reviver," and "Gaiking."
