A Washington high school senior is creating a buzz after he hit an incredible 67-yard field goal as the clock was winding down, to send the game into overtime.

The site of the record breaking feat was Spokane, Washington and for Central Valley High's Austin Rehkow it will be a night he may never forget.

He kicked the 67-yard field goal for Central Valley High in the closing moments in the game against Shadle Park High to tie the game 55-55. Central Valley eventually won the game 62-55 in overtime.

Rehkow's field goal set a new Washington state record comfortably exceeding the previous mark of 62 yards that was set back in 1929.

Statistics from The National Federation of High Schools revealed that Rehkow's kick tied the mark for the second-longest high school field goal ever. The current record of 68 yards is held by Dirk Borgognone of Reno, Nev., and was set back in 1985.

What makes this feat all the more impressive and special is the fact that the current NFL record is 63 yards and has been reached by three kickers in NFL history.

The call to make the field goal attempt came from Central Valley head coach Rick Giampietri and he revealed that he knew the ball had a good chance the moment Rehkow hit it.

Giampietri explained that he had two options, try a "Hail Mary" pass or go for the long field goal, but Giampietri felt confident in his kicker.

''It wasn't spinning real fast. He hit it right in the belly…It went between the uprights," Giampietri told AP, adding that ''he's kicked 60-yarders before in practice."

Rehkow said that when he got the call a rush of adrenaline overcame him and he was able to make good contact with the football.

''I went out there and you get that extra adrenaline going. I let it rip. Luckily it stayed through the uprights and once I saw the arms go up (from referees) it was just an overwhelming feeling of joy,'' Rehkow told The Spokesman-Review.
