$99 HP TouchPad: HP Announces New TouchPad Shipment

Customers are anticipating the final HP TouchPad units to be shipped to retail stores.

There are 200000 units left. The HP TouchPad has garnered high demand ever since a fire sale last summer that slashed its price from $499 to $99.

HP discontinued the tablet computer due to disappointing sales; however, it quickly became one of the best selling products on the market after retailers offered the liquidated price.

Several TouchPad owners have expressed on various websites, such as Amazon, that they are extremely pleased with their tablets.

After the TouchPad sold out at all stores, customers have eagerly awaited its return.

HP has announced on its blog, The Next Bench, that the final shipment of TouchPad would be available at retail stores in "a few weeks.” HP has not given a specific time frame, though.

"Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand," said HP on its blog.

“We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone,” HP wrote. “We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase.”

The TouchPad is easiest to find on Amazon; the 16 GB model retails for around $250.

While the TouchPad is no longer being manufactured, HP has committed to providing webOS updates and apps for the tablet, as the company moves toward primarily developing software.

HP released a webOS 3.0.4 update for the TouchPad on Oct. 18.
