Sometimes, when it comes to made-for-TV inspirational movies, we have to look beyond the message it appears to show and replace it with the spiritual message it truly portrays and “A Walk in My Shoes” requires just that.
High school teacher Trish Fahey (Nancy Travis, “Three Men and a Baby,” “Becker”) is your typical mother of two, with a great house, a great husband and what seems to be, a fulfilling career. However, she’s not truly present in the moment. When people try to speak to her, she doesn’t want to hear it. She’d rather ignore everything. She hears but she doesn’t listen. She is blinded by the excuse of busyness.
When Justin Kremer (Cameron Deane Stewart) doesn’t turn in his paper, an action that might suspend him from his basketball team, he is just as stubborn to simply not care. But everything changes when he meets a zany girl, Molly (Yara Martinez, “My Own Worst Enemy”), who transforms his perspective on life, forever.
We are never really told who Molly is, but her job description pretty much indicates that she’s an angel on a big mission, to bring Trish to Justin’s reality and to open up her eyes to realize that everything has cause, everything has a reason and everything needs room for actually listening to people rather than just making assumptions about them.
While she’s in the body of Justin’s mother she discovers a justifiable reason for his behaviors.
The death of his father as a Marine in Iraq had completely changed his world. His little brother refuses to believe in miracles. He even wonders if there is a God.

Only towards the end of the movie we get to see the true meaning of the message it tries to deliver. One of the best scenes is when his brother asks “Do you believe in God?”
“I don’t understand, where was God when my dad died?” And the reply is, “Right beside him.”
“A Walk in My Shoes” will definitely make us wonder and stop for a second to reconsider if we are actually listening. It also reminds us that “maybe sometimes life just happens for a reason; life isn't much a puzzle as it is a plan.”
“A Walk in My Shoes” premiers today at 8/7C on NBC.
