Actor Jon Voight campaigned in Pensacola, Fla., on Saturday for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Voight, a veteran actor and the father of Academy Award winning actress Angelina Jolie, called Romney "a man of faith, honor, love, and truth. These are the first very important qualities a president must have."

Voight sparked controversy during the 2008 presidential campaign when he starred in "September Dawn," a film about the 1857 massacre of over 100 West-bound Christian settlers by Mormons posed as Indians in southern Utah. Voight denied the movie was a jab at Romney, who is Mormon.

Voight, a loyal Republican who endorsed Senator John McCain's for president in 2008, said President "decided to follow his father's footsteps and take us to socialism."

Voight, who supported JFK for president and admitted to holding more liberal ideals in the 1960s, also appeared on Mike Huckabee's Fox News talk show in 2008, vehemently criticizing Obama.

"I'm here to validate all the millions of people who are opposed to the Obama healthcare. We're witnessing a slow and steady takeover of our true freedoms. We're becoming a socialist nation, and Obama is causing civil unrest in this country," Voight said.

"Obama has made this [healthcare] a personal crusade now ... As we can see it really is about him. He is arrogant and he's adamant that he's going to get this passed."

"They're taking away God's first gift to man. Our free will,' Voight added.

Romney told the crowd he was unsure of what to say when he met the actor, the National Journal reported. "I started talking about my five boys. I said, 'You know, it's easier to raise boys than girls.'" Romney said Voight paused for a while, then responded, "Tell me about it."

Voight, who starred in "Mission: Impossible" and "Midnight Cowboy," famously has a rocky relationship with his more liberal daughter.

Earlier this month, Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt visited President Obama.

A White House aide told polito.com that during their visit, Obama "spoke with Ms. Jolie about her work to raise the profile of preventing mass atrocities and combating sexual violence against women."
