Adrienne Maloof and Sean Stewart have reportedly split just two months after going public with their relationship.
The 51-year-old socialite began dating Stewart, who is the 32-year-old son of British rock musician Rod Stewart, shortly after her divorce from Paul Nassif was finalized in November. A source claims that the unlikely couple decided it was better to be friends.
"They've decided to distance themselves and become friends. Nothing bad happened," a source close to Maloof told Us magazine.
"They're still going to hang out as friends, they enjoy each other's company," the source added.
In January the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star was forced to defend her relationship with Stewart after receiving criticism over their 19-year age gap. After being branded a "cougar" by critics, the reality star told reporters that "age is just a number."
"It's about how good of a person you are!" Maloof reportedly told TMZ.com. "[Sean] is a very funny guy. He's very giving, he mentors at the mission, works with at-risk children, and gives his time and money to get children off the streets."
The pair reportedly met through a mutual friend, and was often spotted enjoying nights out in Hollywood.
The break-up news comes less than one week after the veteran "Housewife" confirmed that she was leaving the hit Bravo reality TV show amid ongoing feuds with fellow cast mates.
"To my loyal fans . . . It was time to exit RHOBH," Maloof tweeted Monday. "The show served as a wonderful platform, stay tuned!"
The mother of three was at the center of controversy throughout season three after her co-star Brandi Glanville exposed a previously well kept family secret. The startling revelation resulted in threats of a lawsuit and the vast majority of cast members siding with Glanville, 40.
Maloof did not attend the season three reunion show taping after reportedly being advised against it by her attorneys.
