'Agent Carter' Cast Rumors, News: 'The Americans' Star Costa Ronin to Play Anton Vanko

"The Americans" actor Costa Ronin is now confirmed to join the cast members list of the upcoming TV show from Marvel, "Marvel's Agent Carter," according to reports. 

Ronin will play the role of Anton Vanko, Vareity reported. Vanko is a Russian inventor and the father of one of Tony Stark's/Iron Man's deadliest enemies, Ivan Vanko, also known as Whiplash.

The father and son were first mentioned in the second installment of the "Iron Man" series in 2010. Ivan, who was portrayed by the 62-year-old Mickey Rourke, was seen wielding two hand-held plasma whips that are connected to an arc reactor embedded in his Whiplash Armor.

Also revealed in the story is the affiliation of his father, Anton, to Tony's own father, Howard, in the designing and creation of the Arc Reactor.

"Fans have wanted to learn more about Anton Vanko since he was first mentioned in 'Iron Man 2' and we're happy to deliver with Costa's terrific performance in 'Marvel's Agents Carter,'" said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television.

Set in 1946, "Marvel's Agent Carter" takes on the story following the events of "Captain America: The First Avengers." The show will star the film's Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.

She will be found working for the Strategic Scientific Reserve or SSR as an administrative officer while at the same time, employed by Stark Industries (under Howard Stark).

Other players joining Atwell and Ronin are Chad Michael Murray (SSR AGENT Jack Thompson), Enver Gjokaj (Agent Daniel Sousa) and Shea Whigham (Chief Roger Dooley), among others.

Produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television, "Marvel's Agent Carter" will premiere in the small screens this coming January 6, 2015.
