'Agent Carter' Season 2 has a new love interest and more villains for Peggy.

In the new Season 2 of "Agent Carter," Peggy will come up against the formidable Madame Masque and Dr. Zola, the HYDRA scientist. In Season 1, Peggy and Captain America's love angle is not resolved so Peggy moves on and may find a new love in Season 2.

Executive Producer Tara Butters said that to bring in Madame Masque as the top antagonist in the new season, they had to do a little tweaking of the timelines.

Butters said, "Here's the thing. It's a little hard. In the comic books, a lot of the Marvel period, there are issue rights. Our villain from the season is very much a Marvel villain that we co-opted a little bit like we did Dr. Fennhoff's in the first season."

Madame Masque is an intriguing character as she has shades of grey and is not wholly bad. Marvel brought her out in 1968 and introduced her character as the daughter of an infamous crime lord who took to crime. But she has a good side to her and sometimes she reneges on her evil bosses to save the world. Plus, she harbours a deep liking for Tony Stark. Agent Carter is from the 1940s and their timelines do not match.

To get around this, Madame Masque's look will be changed to fit into the 40s America. Instead of a masque, she will sport a metal mask and look like a 40s Diva.

Tara Butters said, "We've made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a '40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that's part of what we're mining with this character."

Now, the niggling bit about that scene where Peggy choses say a poignant goodbye to Steve Rodgers and sets out to destroy the last remaining vial of his blood so that it does not fall into the wrong hands. Does this mean Peggy leaves Steve for his own good and sets off to find love elsewhere?

Showrunner Michele Fazekas says, "I think that was a very early idea, that that would be the conclusion of her personal arc for the season — that in order to move on with her life, she had to let Cap go."

Since a lot is being packed in the new installment, "Agent Carter" Season 2 will have 10 episodes as compared to Season 1, which only consisted 8 episodes. It will be released in 2016.
