'Agents of SHIELD' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers: FitzSimmons 'Complicated' Relationship, New Cast Joining

The Season 1 finale of ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has been the talk of the town lately as Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) finally revealed his true feelings to his partner and best friend Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) when both of them were trapped underwater with no hope of escape.

The confession moment turns out a bit more interesting as Simmons kissed him everywhere but his lips. Nevertheless, the two managed to resurfaced and survived. When they were taken to safety, the science wiz disappeared from the scene.

It still not known what will happen to Fitz in the upcoming season, but the executive producers did promise to work "a few bumps" on the Fitz-Simmons relationship, Enzstarz.com reported.

Showrunner Jeff Bell was recently quoted saying, via TV Line, "The beauty of what [Fitz said to Simmons trapped underwater] is it makes for lots of complicated feelings."

"I'd be curious to see how things will be different or the same now," the producer added.

Henstridge further shed light to the matter during a recent talk at Houston's Comicpalooza.

"Let's just say, however she felt in the past now it doesn't matter because the stakes have changed and they're a lot higher for FitzSimmons' relationship," she said. "He is, and always will be, her main priority."

Meanwhile, rumors about the arrival of fresh faces to the show have been circulating.

Breathecast indicated that "Spartacus" actress Lucy Lawless will join to take up the role of a certain Isabelle Hartley, an agent skilled with knives. Details are still yet to be confirmed whether or not Lawless' purported character will be permanent in the show.

Another additional character that has surfaced is Barbara "Bobbi" Morse, better known as the Mockingbird. A bo-staff wielding martial artist, she is rumored to coerce with Agent May. There's still no particular name mentioned as to who will be playing the role.

Furthermore, fans will once again see Agent Maria Hill as she will be making a comeback in the second season, although she won't be working under Coulson's team.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 2 will return to ABC on Sept. 23 at 9 pm ET.
