The ship will head directly to the search zone while the air force is coordinating with the Indonesian for a search flight route.

The Airbus A320-200 lost contact with air traffic control almost two hours after it took off from Surabaya's Juanda International Airport on Sunday morning for Singapore. Initial reports indicated that the pilots had asked to change course to avoid the bad weather. However, the plane never sent a distress signal before it got lost on the radar.

The flight had 162 people on board: 155 passengers and 7 plane crew members.

Preliminary findings stipulated by Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency, which is headed by Bambang Soelistyo, indicated that the plane is "located on the ocean floor."

Much of the initial search operations cover largely the waters around Belitung Island. Reports claim that trails of oil slicks were spotted by the Indonesian Air Force planes in the area but search experts believe that they are most likely waste coming from passing ships.
