Katherine Webb, Miss Alabama USA 2012, is said to be stunned that she has become an internet sensation after watching her boyfriend, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, and his team swiftly defeat Notre Dame to win the BCS National Championship Monday.
The 23-year-old reigning Miss Alabama was initially picked up in the crowd during the first quarter by ESPN cameras and then consistently thereafter throughout the game, which resulted in her capturing the attention of sportscasters and even the Arizona Cardinals' Darnell Dockett. Dockett then asked her out on Twitter, according to the Huffington Post.
Webb was simply present to watch McCarron's epic performance, although her good looks appeared to distract from his team's win. Twitter was abuzz and Webb began to trend after sportscasters openly complimented her "good-looking" appearance during the match.
"Wow, I'm telling you quarterbacks: You get all the good-looking women," announcer Brent Musburger said as the camera focused on Webb, sitting with McCarron's mother.
"What a beautiful woman. Wow!" he went on. "If you're a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with pop."
Minutes later, Webb's Twitter following soared, and the model gained tens of thousands of followers, most of which were likely admirers. NBA star LeBron James was also reportedly among the thousands who flocked to follow Webb, according to Daily Mail.
"My followers went from 2,300 this morning to 96,000 by the end of the night. I don't know if I should even check now, I don't know what is going on," a baffled Webb told Yahoo! Sports.
"I guess [Musburger] said something but I don't know what it was because I haven't seen it," she went on adding."Oh Lord. This is the first time that's kind of ever happened for me. I've never dated someone who's actually been in the spotlight, so it's a new thing for me."
Dockett, the Cardinals' defensive end, also appeared to be taken aback by Webb's beauty, although he was left slightly red-faced when his tweets to the model were unintentionally made public.
"aye u going to king of diamonds Monday after game?" one of Dockett's tweets read.
"Aye @_KatherineWebb hit me (240) 464-xxxx when game over, lets go to wing stop then King of diamond," another eager tweet read.
He eventually realized that his tweets were public and stated that they were actually intended to be direct messages before deleting them.
McCarron, who was thrilled after his teams win, did not appear to be intimidated by the sudden interest in Webb. The 22-year-old was amazed after learning that 28-year-old James, who plays for the Miami Heat, was following his girlfriend.
"No way," McCarron said repeatedly after learning about Webb's new fan. "Man, I'm going to Tweet him and I'm going to get a follow. That's messed up!"
