Manchester City's Mario Balotelli scores a penalty kick against Borussia Dortmund during their Champions League Group D soccer match in Manchester October 3, 2012.

Ajax vs Borussia Dortmund takes place on Wednesday in the Champions League in a vital game for both sides to determine who will progress to the knock out stages of Europe's premier soccer competition. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2.45 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream by clicking on the link below.

Group D is arguably the most difficult in the Champions League this season and contains the champions of Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and England. It is to the German side's great respect that they come into this fifth round of matches top of the table ahead of Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to confirm their place in the next round by winning this game tonight, and if they do beat Ajax then Real Madrid can also progress by simply gaining a draw against English champions Manchester City.

At the moment Dortmund are top of the group with eight points from their first four games, where as Real Madrid sit second with seven from their four matches. Ajax and Manchester City have been struggling and have just four and two points respectively.

For Ajax they must win tonight if they are to push for a qualification spot, although a draw would not put them out if Manchester City beat Real Madrid in England in tonight's other game.

If both Ajax and Manchester City win tonight, which is not unthinkable, then this group could be thrown wide open again, where as right now the top two teams look like the favorites to progress and could both potentially bring the group to a close tonight.

Ajax vs Borussia Dortmund kicks off at 2.45 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream by clicking here.
