Aldon Smith Arrested for Possible DUI

The San Francisco 49ers were delt a blow perhaps more crushing than what they find on the field. Pass rusher Aldon Smith has been arrested on suspicion of a DUI in San Jose, Calif.

After crashing his car, officers "conducted an investigation and determined he was under the influence," Sgt. Heater Randol said to the Associated Press.

The San Francisco 49ers released a statement to USA Today Sports after learning of his arrest.

"The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith. As we continue to gather information regarding this situation, we will have no further comment," the statement said.

Consequences could be harsh for Smith, as this is his second DUI arrest since becoming a member of the San Francisco team. In the winter of 2012, after the 49ers' season had come to an end, Smith was arrested on a DUI, according to Sports Illustrated.

And that's not where Smith's legal troubles end. He is currently involved in a civil suit because a man was shot at a party Smith hosted.

The man, Ronndale Esporlas, claims that Smith is in part at fault to the "serious, catastrophic and permanent injuries" which he sustained at the party when he was in the middle of a "crossfire of bullets," Sports Illustrated reported.

A lawyer for Aldon Smith recently made a statement placing the blame on Esporlas and not his client.

Esporlas "knew of the dangers and risks" that were involved with the party, Smith's lawyer said.

Could this legal trouble spell hard times ahead for the 49ers? Will the NFL take action against Smith for his legal troubles? That information is yet to be know, but both are likely possibilities
