Allison Williams to Play Peter Pan in 'Peter Pan Live!': 'It's a Dream Come True!'

Allison Williams is set to take on a brand new role, one that another young lady made famous. The "Girls" star will be portraying Peter Pan in NBC's production of "Peter Pan Live!" The live-action role was made famous by Mary Martin.

The announcement of Williams' appearance was posted on Twitter last Thursday; she will star opposite Christopher Walken, who will play Captain Hook. Since then, she has been very enthusiastic about her upcoming appearance.

"We couldn't be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan," Robert Greenblatt, the chairman of NBC Entertainment, in a statement. "She's a lovely rising star on the award-winning show 'Girls' – where she occasionally shows off her incredible vocal talent – and we think she will bring the perfect blend of 'boyish' vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken's powerful Captain Hook."

Williams herself has also promoted the live-action show, which will be the second for NBC. The network earlier produced "The Sound of Music," which received a good viewing.

"I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true," Williams said. "It's such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I'm very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides, what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting, and singing?"

Williams has achieved great success on HBO's show "Girls." She was originally not the first pick for the production but was awarded the role after Kristen Bell turned it down.

"What's been hard is we've actually had several women who wanted to do it but they're either busy or can't fit it in to their schedules," Greenblatt said. "Because I that person from Aug. 5 to Dec. 5, so that knocks out the Kristen Bells of the world, who is someone I talked to about doing it. But she's doing 'House of Lies.'"

"Peter Pan Live!" will air December 4 on NBC.
