Am I a Doubter?

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Have you heard the words, "Seeing is believing?" Many people are doubters–they refuse to believe something until it is proven. Even Christians can be doubters. They have trouble trusting God and His Word.

In John 20:24-29, the Bible tells about a doubter named Thomas. He was a friend and follower of the Lord Jesus. Jesus had told his followers that He would die. He also told them He would come back to life again. After Jesus died, His followers were sad and afraid. Then, Jesus appeared to them–but Thomas wasn't there. When the others told him that Jesus was alive, Thomas doubted. He told them that unless he could see Him and touch the nail scars in His hands, he would not believe (John 20:25).

Later, Jesus appeared again. This time, Thomas was there. The Lord Jesus invited Thomas to touch His hands so he would no longer doubt. Thomas now believed. He fell to his knees and worshiped Jesus as his Lord. Jesus said, "Because you have seen me you believed. Blessed [happy] are they who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29).

Someday you'll see Jesus in Heaven. Until then, don't be a doubter. Have faith in God–believe His Word.
