Amanda Bynes Improving After Hospitalization

Amanda Bynes is reportedly showing signs of improvement following her recent hospitalization in a Southern California hospital.

The former Nickelodeon star, 27, has been put on a daily cocktail of drugs to control what doctors at the Hillmont Psychiatric Center in Ventura County suspect may be schizophrenia and subsequently she is no longer talking to herself and insulting people, according to TMZ.com.

On July 22, Bynes, whose increasingly strange behavior has raised concerns about her mental health in recent months, was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold after allegedly lighting a fire outside of an elderly woman's home. While the troubled actress is said to be doing better, sources claim it will likely take longer to see significant changes in her behavior.

"(There have been) no real changes in the situation yet. Meds take more than a week," a source told the New York Daily News.

Bynes' psychiatric hold was reportedly extended after her concerned parents, Lynn and Rick, requested a two-week extension to ensure the actress' safety and well being. An appeal hearing was reportedly scheduled for Thursday as the former child star is still objecting to her involuntary hospitalization, but a source claims her chances of release are slim.

"It's not likely she will be released," the source said.

Lynn and Rick recently filed for a conservatorship via the courts in order to gain full control of Bynes' personal and financial matters.

"The goal is to get her treatment, either through the courts or some other way. That's the only goal," the source revealed. "Her mom has seen her (in the hospital). They're still talking."

Prior to Bynes' hospitalization Lynn and Rick reportedly felt helpless and struggled to intervene because the actress is an adult.

"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at Amanda and surmise that she is having some sort of crisis. Her makeover is just one example of her troubling behavior. Her parents just wish the media would leave Amanda alone, because it's only making the situation worse. Amanda is lost and she refuses to get help," a source told RadarOnline.com prior to Bynes' recent 5150 hold.

"Her parents are powerless to do anything because she is 27 years of age and there is very little they can do, under the law," the source added.
