Casey Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez says that Anthony and Amanda Knox are just a pair of “all-American girls.”
Baez said he was happy for Amanda Knox, who was acquitted Oct. 3 of murdering Meredith Kercher.
According to Baez, watching Knox’s verdict was “a very surreal moment.”
“I remembered being in that situation – where a young woman’s life hung in the balance – and in a split second, her life was given back to her,” he told TMZ.
Baez believed that Knox’s family played an important role in her release and should “be applauded” for standing by her side. Unlike Anthony’s family who did not support her and, he felt – “hurt her case.”
The defense attorney told TMZ in the end, they are just a pair of “all-American girls.”
Amanda Knox touched American soil for the first time in four years last week, following her release from an Italian prison for the death of Meredith Kercher.
An appeals court acquitted the 24-year-old Oct. 3 of murdering her British roommate, who was killed during a drug-influenced sex game that went awry. A jury of six, along with two judges, overturned Knox’s 26-year jail sentence for the 2007 murder.
Meanwhile, Casey Anthony was acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in July 2011. She is currently serving probation for check fraud charges in an unrelated case at an undisclosed location in Florida.
Anthony began psychological treatment last month and is doing “well” a source close to the 25-year-old revealed.
“She hopes she will someday redeem herself and live a productive life,” the source told People magazine.
In September, Orange County Judge Belvin Perry, who presided over Anthony’s murder trial, ruled that she had to repay $217,000 in costs related to the investigation and disappearance of Caylee.
Perry, who issued the first fine of $97,676.98, increased the reimbursement costs the 25-year-old owed four central Florida law enforcement agencies.
The additional payments came about after the Orange County Sheriff’s Office provided Perry with a better-detailed account of their costs.
