Amanda Marcum Enfield: Wife of FGCU Coach Makes Waves Ahead of Big Game

As March Madness heats up this week, the wife of Florida Gulf Coast University basketball coach Andy Enfield has become a top search trend Thursday.

Amanda Enfield, a former model who even appeared on the cover of Maxim magazine, has caught the attention of sports fans, despite the fact that her husband made FGCU history recently. Head Coach Andy Enfield has guided FGCU to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the school's history. Florida Gulf Coast plays Georgetown in a second-round game on Friday night.

In addition to the anticipation of Friday's big NCAA game against Georgetown, basketball enthusiasts can look forward to the likelihood that Enfield will be featured during the telecast. In fact, Amanda Marcum Enfield has become a trending search topic on several websites ahead of Friday's match.

The wife of the head coach is the mother of three children who had put family before her modeling career, according to a report by Naples News in 2011.

Ahead of starting a family, Amanda appeared on the cover of Elle, Vogue, and the 2002 Swimsuit Issue of Maxim, as well as in advertisements for Ellessee, Liz Claiborne, and Armani, among others.

It was their mutual love of sports that drew the model to her future husband in 2003. Amanda met Enfield when he gave her a ride from New York City to Boston in order to watch the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the 2003 NCAA Tournament and the pair was engaged six months later, according to Yahoo! Sports.

"I'm happy with the choices I made," Amanda told Naples Daily News in 2011. "Andy keeps me laughing. He's a great person to depend on, and he's a great friend and great father. Takes care of his family very well. He's very entertaining and funny, but he's also very responsible."

Before his coaching career, Enfield played college basketball at Johns Hopkins where he set an NCAA record for best career free-throw percentage- a record that still stands. Later, he was a bench coach with the Boston Celtics, and then served as assistant at Florida State before his current job.

It is not uncommon for sports' stars significant others to steal the spotlight during sporting events. Earlier this year, Katherine Webb, beauty queen and girlfriend to Alabama quarterback A. J. McCarron, earned widespread fame for her appearance at the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.
