"'American Horror Story: Freak Show' begins its tale in the quiet, sleepy hamlet of Jupiter, Florida. The year is 1952. A troupe of curiosities has just arrived in town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience."

The new season will see Lange as Elsa Mars, a German ex-patriot running one of the last American freak shows. The new season will also feature franchise stars Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe, Sarah Paulson, Denis O'Hare, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, and Frances Conroy.

New faces are also set to appear on the show. "The Shield" star Michael Chiklis will play a strongman and husband to Bassett's character, while Wes Bentley will guest in a Halloween arc. TV Line reported that Bentley character will be a dark tormentor from Bates' character's past, and is bent on revenge.

Moreover, "Fargo" star John Carroll Lynch will play the season's villain, a serial killer clown named Twisty. Singer Patti LaBelle will play Sidibe's mother, and Jyoti Amge—the world's smallest woman—is joining the cast as one of the curiosities in the freak show.
