American Idol contestant Lauren Alaina gave credit to God for helping her through Tuesday’s finale with a bruised vocal cord.

“I knew somehow God would get me through it,” wrote Alaina on a notepad and read by fellow finalist Scotty McCreery at a press conference.

The 16-year-old from Tennessee was given a shot of steroids before Tuesday’s show “to calm the vocal chord and the swelling,” a source told People magazine.

Despite her vocal problems, Alaina managed to shine on Tuesday’s show with her impressionable song “Like My Mother Does.”

The emotionally-charged song included the chorus, “When I love, I give it all I’ve got, like my mother does. When I’m scared I bow my head and pray, like my mother does.”

American Idol Judge Randy Jackson gave her a standing ovation, Jennifer Lopez said she might have won with that song, and Steven Tyler remarked, “You are it in my eyes.”
