'American Idol' Reboot Updates: Katy Perry Believes Show Can Still Discover a Talent That Can Impact Music Industry

Despite the presence of numerous singing talent searches that have been running for years already, Katy Perry believes that there are still many talents out there waiting to be discovered through the new "American Idol."

The three judges of the new "American Idol" finally made their first appearance as a team recently, and talked about what people can expect from the upcoming reboot of the reality-singing talent search. Apart from dubbing the group of new judges in the show as the "dream team," Perry also went to reveal that she believes that the new "American Idol" will still discover a talent worth bestowing the title of an "idol."

"I think there is still talent out there to be discovered. I mean, we live in the age of the Internet... I think there are still stars, and diamonds in the rough. I think the great American dream, we can revive that in a way and show people that if they have the talent, if they work really hard and if we can give them that lucky star and the combination of those three things maybe we can give them kind of like a little platform to just shine..." Perry said during the new "American Idol" judges' guesting on "Good Morning, America" recently.

Apart from the hope to discover a talent that will make an impact in the music industry, Lionel Richie, who is also slated to judge the performances of the "American Idol" hopefuls along with Perry and Luke Bryan, also revealed that it is important for the judging panel to gauge if their choices have the ability to put up with the downside of being in the music industry. After all, according to Richie, some hopefuls don't realize that many singers don't get to choose their schedules, even the time when they should sleep.

Meanwhile, Perry and Richie revealed in a separate interview what their judging styles will be. While Perry said that hopefuls and viewers alike can expect a more constructive criticism from her, Richie has said that he will be brutally honest. Despite the differing judging styles, one thing is for sure: "American Idol" reboot will be devoid of nastiness as, according to Richie, the word "nasty" implies that they would intentionally hurt someone.

ABC has yet to attach an official release date for "American Idol" reboot, although the talent search is expected to arrive in 2018.
