America's Favorite Movie Star Chosen

Johnny Depp has been named America's favorite actor according to a survey by Harris Interactive.

The actor topped the "Favorite Movie Star" poll for the second year in a row, besting several other A-list actors despite his reclusive lifestyle.

Depp swept most of the female demographic categories in the Harris poll, which received its results after surveying 2,237 adults online for a week in early December. Also, much of the actor's fan base are registered Republicans, Independents, and conservatives, and he also topped all age groups except those older than 66.

While Depp's latest film "The Rum Diary" only brought in $13 million in the box office, the Oscar-nominated actor remains one of the highest-paid actors of Hollywood today. His films, such as "Alice in Wonderland," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and "Pirates" consistently earned between $250 and $500 million domestically, according to The Huffington Post.

Denzel Washington and Clint Eastwood tied on the poll at second place, while George Clooney, ranked at number six, won with those over the age of 66. Tom Hanks followed by John Wayne rounded out the fourth and fifth positions on the list.

Although the list was open to female stars, only Sandra Bullock made it the top ten, coming it at number seven. Harrison Ford, Will Smith, and Adam Sandler completed the list of America's top ten favorites.

The poll's results are unsurprising to many, as Depp has twice been named the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine and has garnered many top awards for his acting.

Harris Interactive's positive results come amidst reports that Depp's personal life is troubled. People magazine indicated that he and longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis have separated.

Depp, who got his start appearing on the television series "21 Jumpstreet," is scheduled to make an appearance in the film version of the series in the near future. Also, he will appear in the upcoming "The Lone Ranger" film adaptation.
