Amtrak Train Carrying 109 Passengers in Fire Collision, Driver Killed

An Amtrak train collided with a tractor-trailer Monday morning, causing an eruption that set both moving vehicles on fire. The crash which occurred at 11 a.m. ET killed the truck driver and split the truck into two separate parts reports MSNBC.com.

An eyewitness has reported to MSNBC that skid marks were seen on the ground following the crash, and this seems to indicate that the driver was attempting to halt his truck before the fatal crash occurred.

The train which is part of Amtrak’s Downeaster service connects Portland to Boston and is reported to have contained 109 passengers.

Specific reports about the severity of injuries to train passengers was unavailable at the present time, however Amtrak has released a report saying that none of the injuries are being considered life threatening.
