Andre Johnson Severs Penis, Jumps Off Building; Wu-Tang Rapper Survives Suicide Attempt (VIDEO)

Andre Johnson, a rapper in the Northstar hip-hop group and affiliated with the Wu Tang clan, severed his own penis and jumped off of a two-story building in a gruesome suicide attempt Wednesday, police reported. The Los Angeles-based rapper survived, however, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Andre Johnson, who raps under the name Christ Bearer in the California group, sliced his genitals early Wednesday morning. Two members of the Northstar rap group who live in the same apartment building said that he then jumped off the balcony without warning, but denied that drugs caused the suicide attempt.

We didn't use "any hard drugs that would cause him to do such a thing," they told TMZ.

By the time Johnson's friends got downstairs to attend to him, he was already up and running around screaming, they said. It is unknown who contacted the authorities.

Police arrived on the scene at the North Hollywood apartment around 1 a.m. and found Johnson lying on the ground critically injured, LAPD Police Sgt. William Mann told CNN. The rapper was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center along with his detached penis for emergency care and treatment.

Johnson's current condition is currently unknown.

Johnson's credits include "When the Guns Come Out" a song included on the "Blade: Trinity" soundtrack in 2004, and he recently released a music video for a song called "Oooh!" Though Northstar's album was produced by Wu-Tang founder RZA, Johnson claimed to be a part of Wu Tang, he has collaborated with the Staten Island rap group in the past, they recently released a statement denying any affiliation with Christ Bearer.

"Parental advisory: don't believe the HYPE. This [expletive] ain't got [expletive] to do with the WUTANG brand," a blog post on WuTangClan.com read.
