The Android 4.4 KitKat release date is still up in the air as Google disappointed fans at its media event yesterday when it did not mention the new software at all.

The event took place in New York and various publications such as Android Authority believed that this would be the place where the company would introduce both the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat. However, Google ended up discussing books, games and music instead. Google sent out a series of tweets revealing what was happening at the event, and none of them featured the smartphone or the software.

Android 4.4 KitKat is rumored to bring users an improved experience with TVs. The next version of Android will be more suitable for running on large screen device such as TVs, according to a report from Korean IT portal ETNews. The site received this information from industry inside sources.

The interface between smart TVs and mobile devices will be enhanced along with the app development environment for TV.

Android 4.4 KitKat will be released alongside the new Nexus 10 and Nexus 5.
