Android 5.0 Lollipop for Google Nexus 5 Release Date Delayed, Unofficial Ports Live for Download at XDA Developers Forum

Previous tech reports indicated that while the new Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will be arriving with Android L5.0 Lollipop OS, Google's existing and relatively old handsets and tablets would receive the update as soon as the mentioned devices went up on sale.

However, Know Your Mobile reported that Google has now delayed the release of the Android Lollipop update for Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 as the tech company has yet to iron out last minute bugs.

"Apparently there are a couple of necessary fixes required before the system is ready to be rolled out to older Nexus devices," said the site.

However, the website pointed out that the update will roll out on Nov. 12, which is a week after it was initially scheduled to launch.

But for those Android geeks who couldn't wait to get their hands on the much-improved OS, it has been reported that "near-final versions" of Android 5.0 had been made available for the mentioned existing devices.

According to BGR, the people from XDA Developers Forum now has the latest version of Android 5.0 and it can now be downloaded and installed on older Nexus handsets as well as other smartphone brands.

The website Android Geeks also pointed out that the unofficial Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM will allow users to test the latest UI changes and features that Google's latest OS upgrade has promised.

"The Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade isn't too far away from an official roll out for Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, but if you're eager to test it before that happens, then you can choose to flash an unofficial port of Android 5.0 AOSP," the site said.
