Android 5.0 Lollipop Update on Nexus 5: Wi-Fi and Battery Problems

Nexus device owners have been looking forward to the Android 5.5 update, also called Android Lollipop, to be made available to them. In November, it was previously reported that the update has been made available for the Nexus 4, 5, 9 and 7, however, Nexus 5 users have complained of several issues after the update was installed.

Some Nexus 5 users reported problems connecting to Wi-Fi, and others have said that the wireless connection standard has been affecting the device's battery life.

"Android Engineering is aware of an issue affecting Nexus 5 users running Android 5.0 which causes significant miscellaneous battery usage while Wi-Fi is enabled. This appears to be caused by an abnormally high number of IRQ wakeup events," said Google Engineer Trevor Johns in a statement.

Multiple reports also claimed that the Android Lollipop removed the silent mode setting from the phone. Moreover, among the latest problems afflicting Nexus 5 users is the flashlight bug. According to Android Police, Nexus 5 users are facing a problem with the new Flashlight toggle in Quick Settings. The website reports, "If you turn it on and leave it like that until it times out and shuts off, the camera and flashlight will stop working until you reboot."

Nexus 4 users have also complained of the flashlight bug, but it seems to be working in a different way in the Nexus 4.

"We've checked on one of our Nexus 4 handsets running Lollipop: the flashlight doesn't turn off itself at all, it stays on as long as you want. However, the camera will stop working after a few minutes," PhoneArena reported.

As of the moment, Google has not made a statement about the flashlight bug is still being reported by some Nexus device users.
