Android 5.1 for Nexus 7 Roll Out News, Update: OTA and Factory Image Also Coming for Nexus 7 WiFi Variants
Tech fans may have noticed the slow roll out of Google's latest mobile operating system version, the Android 5.1. But according to recent reports, it appears that it won't be long before handlers of Nexus devices will be enjoying the offering of the new firmware.
A report from Android Authority first indicated that the mini tablet computer co-developed by the Mountain View, California-based tech giant and Asus, the Nexus 7, is now getting the Android 5.1 OS.
This comes after the announcement of the update release for the LG-made Google Nexus 4 earlier this week.
The initial report pointed out that the latest Lollipop update would only be made available for the LTE versions of the devices. The article was later on updated to announce that the Wi-Fi version of the 2013 device is also receiving the same treatment.
Android 5.1 is reported to offer both of the Nexus 7 devices several bug fixes, a slew of performance improvements, as well as a handful of user interface changes and new features.
Among the mentioned enhancements include Quick Settings tweaks, Screen Pinning improvements, Contacts app improvements, System Volume adjustments, and new animations.
Other new under-the-hood features mentioned by the publication:
Device Protection – a feature which locks your phone even after factory resets
HD Voice Calling – which supports High Definition calling quality between Nexus devices running on the latest Google firmware
Dual-SIM support -- For those owning the WiFi version of the Nexus 7, they can download the OTA file through this link (via AO). LTE variant users, on the other hand, can get their link here.
