Android 5.1 Lollipop Release Date Arriving to Motorola Droid Turbo Soon

Just before 2014 ended, Motorola made a big announcement that introduced the world to the best Android-powered smartphone of the year, the Droid Turbo. Unfortunately, the device is only available through Verizon Wireless in the U.S.

Although there are other parts of the world where the Droid Turbo is available under the brand name Moto Maxx, only Verizon is getting the special treatment in the U.S. For users of the smartphone who have been wondering when it will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, do not bother waiting.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Motorola device won't get version 5.0, but head straight to Android 5.1 in the coming weeks.

The information came from Motorola software engineer Luciano Carvalho, who hinted the details after answering some questions at Google+.

In the report, Google has just launched Android 5.1 for supported Nexus devices, which are the Nexus 6 from Motorola and Nexus 9 from HTC.

Older Nexus phones have not yet received the latest update.

In spite breaking away from Google almost a year ago, Motorola still maintains a close relationship with the tech giant. An obvious proof is the fact that the latest Android updates arrive to some Motorola phones earlier than even some Nexus handsets.

Once the Droid Turbo gets Android 5.1 Lollipop, it would reportedly begin supporting VoLTE features.

Announced late last year, the Motorola smartphone packs a 5.2-inch display with QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution, 3GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 805 chipset.

The smartphone also features the highest camera sensor ever placed on a Motorola phone – 21MP made by Sony.

Until now, there are still some Android fans who are hoping that the Droid Turbo would arrive in other carriers and retailers.
