Android 6.0 Marshmallow News: What Samsung Phones Will Get Update and When?

While most smartphone manufacturers have been hinting when the newest Android OS will hit their phones, Samsung has not made any official announcement yet when the update will reach their recent flagships and even their older phone models. A report in Tech Times cites a recent leak that is said to list all the Samsung phone models that are getting the OS update, along with the list of other smartphone brands and models that were likewise included in the update.

The list is rumored to have come from China and listed most of Samsung's recent flagship phones and phablets that are confirmed to get Marshmallow. These include the Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge and Edge+, the Note 4 and 5, the Galaxy Alpha, the A8 and the A7. The list reportedly had a second column for phone models that have not been determined if they will get the benefit of an update. This second list includes the entire E series, the Galaxy A5 and the A3.

The report noted that the list did not include older handsets such as the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3, which may be disappointing for owners of these handsets. It also notably excluded the Duos models of the Note 4 and the S6 Duos.

This is the second list of Samsung phones that has come out since the latest Android OS was announced. Like the first leak, Samsung has not confirmed if these are indeed the final list of phone models that will receive the update. The first leak was slightly different because it did not include the older Galaxy S5, but included two Duos phones models.

Aside from the list of phones, Samsung has yet to confirm when it will be bringing Marshmallow to its devices. Based on the last OS update for Lollipop, Samsung released its version a month after Google officially launched the new OS. But other factors come into play such as the role of mobile carriers in rolling out the update.
