Android 6.0 to be Called Key Lime Pie

Android 5.0, which is rumored to be called Jellybean, has not even come out yet, and already there is news on what Android 6.0 will be known as.

Google's sixth generation Android software is rumored to be called Key Lime Pie, according to some of the leading tech news outlets, including 9to5 Google and The Verge.

The Verge recently reported that an anonymous tipster informed the outlet that Google would in fact be naming the software Key Lime Pie after the famed dessert.

Google is known for picking desserts when it comes to naming its Android software. It also follows the alphabet when picking names as well. Android software names have progressed over the years from Donut, to Éclair, to Froyo, to Gingerbread then Honeycomb, and finally, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Rumors began to spread last month, stating that Android 5.0 would be called Jellybean, and Google provided a hint at this year's MWC that would confirm that. The company teased Android fans by bringing a bowl of Jellybeans in a surrounding it with Android dolls, hinting that there is a good chance 5.0 will be named after the famed candy.

When figuring out what Google will choose to name an Android software, one must follow the alphabet and single out the name that will stick. Since Jellybean is all but confirmed, than 6.0 has to start with a 'K.' Key Lime Pie seems to make sense, according to tech site 9to5 Google.

Other possible names for Android 6.0 could be Kustard, Koen, Kugel and KrumKake.

The company's latest software, Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, has yet to spread to some of the most famed Android devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S2. It currently only makes up for just one percent of Android devices, with Gingerbread and Froyo dominating the rest. By this, you can conclude that it will be a long time before anyone sees Jellybean or Key Lime Pie.
