Android 8.0 Oreo News: Samsung Galaxy Smartphones Could Get New Update Soon

Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8+ could soon be getting the new Android 8.0 Oreo updates.

According to Sammobile, Samsung is currently working on a project that could be developing the new Android 8.0 Oreo for their Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices. The tech giant is working on firmware versions known as G950FXXE1ZQI7 and G955FXXU1ZQI7 that are speculated to be Oreo updates that are under beta testing.

The letter Z in the sequence indicate that these are test versions, similar to how the beta Nougat was first launched in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 devices from last year.

However, there is no confirmation yet when the new Android 8.0 Oreo update will be available for the new Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices.

IB Times notes that before the Android 7.0 Nougat was made available to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices, they went into two months of beta testing, which was the first time that Android let Samsung users test the software before its official release.

However, Google's new Project Treble might help make the process of beta testing the Android 8.0 faster.

According to Android Developers Blog, Project Treble is a program that allows Android devices to update faster by prioritizing systems updates before enabling the customizations added in by manufacturers.

Samsung is known to have slow updates because of their additional interfaces before initializing system updates. Project Treble will help change this problem, and as a result, should help the Android 8.0 Oreo update be tested faster on Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ might be the first batch of smartphones among Android devices outside of Google's branding that will get the new Oreo update.

However, there will be other Android phones that will first get the new Android 8.0 Oreo update, such as Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X.
