Android KitKat 4.4.4 Update on Sony Xperia Z1 Release Date Arrives

Finally, after months of waiting, the Android 4.4.4 Kitkat update is now available to the Sony Xperia Z1. Up until its release to the device, the Xperia Z1's were only running on the Android 4.3 software.

The update is already available for U.S. carriers like T-Mobile or on several Canadian carriers like Telus, Bell, and Rogers.

Other telecom carriers have not released the updates to subscribers with Xperia Z1s yet but are working to get it out soon.

The update can be seen on the OTA update center for the Sony Xperia device. Not all subscribers will have the updates as Sony is releasing the software in waves and may take some time before it reaches everyone.

The Xperia Z1 won't be the only Xperia device getting the updates. The whole line of Z1s will be getting the update also, which includes the Xperia Compact and the Xperia Ultra.

Sony hasn't been the only one dealing with the issue of a delayed release for the Kitkat 4.4.4 updates. HTC has also experienced delays in releasing the updates on the One M8. There have been hints, however, that HTC's flagship phone might be getting the updates soon. After the One M8, the One M7 Developer's Edition might be next in line for the 4.4.4 update.

Australian carrier Telstra has already announced the release of the Android 4.4.3 and 4.4.4, not just with the Xperia Z1 line but also with HTC and Motorola. The release will be sometime in September as the software is still undergoing the testing process.
